Somewhere in this stack of old hard drives are all the audio files for my first two records.

This is a bad idea because I don’t have time to spend going down memory lane and getting wistful over old jpegs.

This tune was going to be part of a concept album inspired by the Ages of Myst. I had a plan to write a song for each Age, but "Selenetic" was as far as I got. #bandcampfriday

A song about ambition! And how everyone hates you for it!

Another one from the batch of songs that came tumbling out after that Bob Mould concert years ago. I took the title from a Songfight! challenge I didn’t actually participate in. #bandcampfriday

My first full-length album was a *struggle* to complete but a combo of hyperfocus and existential dread got it over the finish line.

A little bit of Pete Yorn and Matthew Sweet crept into this one. The lead track is my favorite. #bandcampfriday

The heart of this tune comes from a demo I made when I was 18 and listening to way too much King Crimson. It has some of the most finger-twisty guitar solos I've ever attempted.

I teamed up with drummer Don Gunn for this tune -- no other way I could've pulled this off! #bandcampfriday

This song is about leaving a familiar place before it becomes too familiar. Some of my best lyrics, IMO. Mike Spaly of Creeping Time contributed the mandolin in a single take! #bandcampfriday

I wrote this song not long after David Bowie died. It's about being so overwhelmed by emotion that you can't function. Meanwhile, time passes anyway.

Fun fact! I trained with a vocal coach to hit that note in the final chorus. #bandcampfriday

In 2013 after a long creative drought, I stomped out of a Bob Mould concert, went home, picked up my electric guitar and blasted out a bunch of songs. Turns out I just needed some loud guitars in my diet. Mould has always been an influence, but this song is me at my Mould-iest. #bandcampfriday

Today is Bandcamp Friday and I'll re-post any musicians donating any (or all) of their proceeds, especially to Minnesota fundraisers -- immigrant support, food banks, rent assistance, or otherwise. Tell your artist friends to use the #bandcampfriday tag, and consider boosting them, too!

AI art just reminds me of wannabe comedians who steal jokes. You might do numbers online but you wouldn’t survive a writers’ room because you haven’t learned anything about the craft.

There’s a reason it’s called a “practice.”

Such a BIG song, I love it so much 😭

“Talent = gatekeeping” is such a weird and flawed premise to defend AI use.

The truly gatekept resource is *opportunity*, and lots of talented folks don’t even look for it and are fine with that.

AI might get you clicks but it can’t replace you not showing up to do the work.

The actual *closest* I've gotten to a pop hit? A country-ish tune about blowing your chance at love. We recruited my Kirby Krackle bandmate Bryce Francis to add piano on this one.

Frickin' sad tune but I love how it just blossoms in my ears. #bandcampfriday

With Kin to Stars I got a little obsessed with writing BIG pop tunes in a way I never had before.

This tune is probably the *second* closest I've come writing a AOR radio-style hit. I don't usually write romance, ever, but the muse had me in her grip. #bandcampfriday

In the mid-aughts I teamed up with songwriter Jerin Falkner to collaborate on some tunes. We called ourselves Kin to Stars and we only lasted two years but we wrote some really great stuff. RIYL The Weepies, The Head and the Heart, etc.

Here's a song about driving alone at night. #bandcampfriday

Okay! Do you like 90s alt-rock-inspired guitar pop in the same orbit as Sugar, Jimmy Eat World, and early Foo Fighters? Car Trouble might be your thing!

This the record I'm most proud of. I listen and I can't believe it's me sometimes. Anyway, this is a song about motorcycles. #bandcampfriday
