Once upon a time I owned four telescopes. I recently sold two bigger ones that hardly ever got used, ordering a SeeStar S30 smart scope. With the chaos of the last week today was the first time I took it out for a test drive. Not bad for first light. #SeeStar #smartscope #astronomy #astrophotography

The North Dakota House has passed HB 1259, which would move the state to follow permanent *standard* time. The bill moves to the Senate. Our circadian rhythms would appreciate the bills passage.

Two data points to ponder:

—Cities from NYC to Wilmington just got the driest month in their 130- to 150-year weather histories.

—The U.S. is having its warmest autumn on record by far. The past 2 mos are nearly 1F above any other Sep-Oct on record.

Sorry for the redirect to a Meta platform, but #DarkSkyInternational is not here yet, so this will have to do. Carl Sagan was one of a kind, a once in a lifetime soul and intellect. It warms my soul to see DarkSky pay tribute during the #UnderOneSky conference.

"Night Magic" is transformational. The science of #lightpollution is there, but the book and its settings are so much more. We journey through Appalachian night with Leigh Ann Henion, and we learn to appreciate the dark and what it offers, as well as our shared humanity along the way.
"May we find our way back to natural darkness, or at least hold fast to the wilderness that still exists, so that we’ll be able to bear witness to night’s living riches," Leigh Ann Henion writes in her marvelous new book, 'Night Magic.' www.sciencenews.org/article/nigh...
