Canadians are born all over the world, it just sometimes takes them a bit of time to get here

In light of the United States turning it's back on the West and giving #Ukraine the biggest middle finger I've ever seen, outside aid is more important than ever.

If it is within your means, consider supporting the Eastern bastion of the Western world:

Yup.

Fine the assholes, but then we should also charge them for the cost of fixing the damage. Enough messing around: you want to commit arson by setting fire to the brush, you should cover the cost the public incurs to ameliorate the damage you caused

But even on the content, it's incredibly interesting to begin to grasp how this element of society views the world.

There's a LOT to unpack. But I think the single most important thing anyone who cares about stopping these people can do, is understand where they're coming from

I HIGHLY recommend listening to this conversation. Both for the content - which can be hard to listen to - and for the tactics Klein uses to dissect the ideology

I'd call this a master class in giving the other guys as much rope as they need to hang themselves.

The USAers aren't okay.

Leaving aside that the NSA has no role in auditing elections, and that the CIA is a foreign intelligence agency rather than a domestic one, we now live in a world where USAers believe any election that wasn't won by their team was stolen.

I want off this rollercoaster

Well that's quite something. Honestly, I wasn't sure I'd live to see it

Now comes the hard part: what does a Palestinian state actually look like? What will our stance be on the status of Jerusalem? And how much does any of this matter without Israel at the table?

I'm struggling with this one.

On the one hand, good that the bike lanes stay.

On the other, if it's unconstitutional to remove bike lanes, which municipality is ever again going to approve building them to begin with?

Prime Ministers seeking out advice from their predecessors - ALL of them - should become the norm

I'm about as far from a fan of Harper as one can get, but more of this can only be healthy for our democracy and our society writ large

Or maybe there are other ways to do it through the AFN? Maybe we need to bring them into our political system and allocate House or Senate seats?

Idk, but the current "system of consultation" is both wholly inadequate and also not at all a "system" so like something has to change
July 28, 2025 at 9:30 PM
Like "meaningful consultation" CANNOT mean the Government has to speak to every individual member of every individual band. There needs to be governance mechanisms for consultation that everyone agrees are legitimate, and I'm wondering if there are like Premier-equivalents who should be at the CoF?
July 28, 2025 at 9:27 PM
They definitely need a seat; the question is who, and at what table?

We've put a lot of words into "meaningful consultation", but there's been very little political attention paid to building the MECHANISMS to actually do it. And I think that's a First Nations issue just as much as ours tbh
July 28, 2025 at 9:24 PM
Funny enough, as long as a poll worker can reasonably interpret "Piarre Polyvaire" as "Pierre Poilievre", and the scrutineers agree, the ballot will still count. Discernable intent is the legal name of our ballot-counting game
July 28, 2025 at 9:14 PM
Hopefully they do this every time the Longest Ballot Committee decides to rear its silly little head.

I'm all for this one

Not surprised.

Since the beginning, I had a hard time believing their actions rose to the level of a criminal offense. That said, it's still disgusting behaviour and I truly hope the fact of the trial alone dissuades other high-level athletes from doing the same things

A good read.

It also has me wondering - and it's likely ignorance on my end - if FNIM want a seat at the Council of the Federation, which isn't a bad idea at all, who would even be a Premier-equivalent? Does a legitimate socio-political equivalent exist?
