Hi, just moved over here from the other place (🐦) I'm in the final year of my PhD "Biodiversity responses to infrastructure expansion and hunting in Brunei Darussalam". This has been mainly working with camera trap data I collected in Brunei's rainforests in 2022.
The first paper from my PhD thesis is out! "Hunting motivations, behaviour and forest access: Characterising wildlife hunting practices in a multi-ethnic, forested landscape of Brunei Darussalam, Southeast Asia" is now available online in People and Nature!

Forgot to post here but I passed my viva on 4th June and am #phdone! From navigating international travel during the pandemic, to hiking through tropical rainforests, to data analysis back at my desk in Newcastle it's been a huge adventure. Thanks to my supervisors and everyone who supported me!

Our textbook chapter is out! I collaborated with an amazing team to pull this together - Prof Marion Pfeifer, Dr Rebekah Puttick and Dr @ldbraunholtz.bsky.social. Look out for our work on #biodiversity, function and change of the tropical rainforests of #Borneo in Terrestrial Biomes, out now 🌳

@aliceoswald.bsky.social's systematic map protocol is out! I assisted Alice with the screening stage after working on FCS at @naturalengland.bsky.social last year. Congrats Alice! 🎉
New #SystematicMap protocol! Oswald et al. will work to understand how ‘favourable conservation status’ is defined & applied in policy/practice #Science4Policy

Great public talk by @mattywin.bsky.social at @newcastleuni.bsky.social tonight. Climate change with a side of early 2000s pop and Peppa Pig having fracking energy #scicomm #climatechange

✨Rare bird sighting✨ Finally talking about a cool finding from my fieldwork back in 2022! While I was aiming to record mammals in Brunei, I also captured some images of the very rare and elusive Bornean ground cuckoo (Carpococcyx radiceus).

Amazing walk-shop around Liverpool today at the @britishecolsoc.bsky.social Annual Meeting exploring ecology's roots in enslavement. So many places across the city with connections to slavery, and so many connections with natural history #liverpool #ecology #decolonisation
