Union Mutualista de San Jose, was a Hispanic mutual aid that supported the Wilmington community. A key member was Abelardo de la Pena, that expressed that their goal was not just financial support or more members, but rather to promote cultural pride and unity in the community (de la Pena, 1963).

📍Wilmington, CA- I visited the Banning Museum, which highlights the work of Phineas Banning in creating the Port of LA and Phineas Banning himself. While the tour was very informative, there was no mention of the Tongva tribes that inhabited the lands prior.
