Meine Entdeckung des Tages!
Jean Bosco Mwenda
Reading about the two-way feedback between African music and that of the Americas and was blown away to encounter what happens when, for instance, mbira technique meets acoustic guitar. Kind of obsessed with Jean Bosco Mwenda at the moment...

We do not have immigration problems, not in the USA, not in the UK and not in the EU.
What we have is racism problems and xenophobia problems and right-wing extremists problems.

In times of fake information and increasingly realistic AI generated content, I suggest we all should develop a general habit to give exact, traceable sources for everything we post, like journalists and historians do.
Be sceptical where such information is missing. Neither like nor share.

The opposite of conservatism is not socialism, communism or any other ‘left-wing’ ideology, but modernity, which arises through enlightenment, i.e. through the application of reason.

In modernity, tradition is no longer accepted as a source of knowledge. Traditions need to be critically investigated using reason (enlightenment).
Conservatism is the attitude of upholding traditions without examining them. It is therefore intrinsically problematic, leading to ideological thinking.

Philosophy is the (reflexive, creative, critical and ethical) activity of producing reason - individually or in groups.
Applying reason to things not yet reasonable is called enlightenment.
Enlightenment results in modernity.
Suppressing modernity/enlightenment/reason/philosophy leads to ideology.

Philosophy is the activity of generating reason, in a critical, self-reflexive and creative (non-formalizable) process interacting with reality. Reason is not a given. It has no fixed form but is the fluid core of cognition generated by individuals but also by communities, by cooperative discourse.

I love art that has a strong perceptual component that gives you a perceptual experience you cannot get otherwise.
In conceptual art, otoh, there's a short moment of "aha" or "ha ha" (or "huh?") but next time it is like a joke you know already. Read a description and you don't need to see it. Bland.

March 6th 2025, walk through the incredible shist landscape in the Dunedin area after visiting goldsmith Kobi Bossard who lives nearby, somebody who I immediately had a close contact with. Talked with him about irregularity in art. We found out we both admire Swiss sculptor Hans Josephson.

What if (dis)information technology amplifies the “noise” of misinformation to such an extent that civilization can no longer reproduce successfully? Has such a process already begun?

Premier album de Lilian, Op. 139: No. 5. Joie de plein air (Le Chemin du paradis). A little piece of genius. After an "exiting" intro, an ethereal, floating motif follows from second 19 onward for about 10 seconds. Absolutely magical. How did he do that?
