Solitary confinement is torture and makes prisons less safe. In 2021, after hearing from all sides for a decade, New York State enacted reasonable restrictions on solitary and courts upheld them. Prisons cannot ignore the law or just make their own laws. Implement HALT now. Contact your legislators.

In 2021, a supermajority of legislators in the NY Senate and Assembly voted to pass the HALT Solitary Confinement Law and courts have consistently upheld it. NYS DOCCS must finally and fully implement the law to protect human rights and improve safety for all. Contact your NYS legislators.
