Definitely something to be watching.
Since Bucknell provost Wendy F. Sternberg announced plans to shutter the university press next summer, the Association of University Presses has reached out to university officials in the hopes of coming up with “a mutually beneficial reimagination of the press.”

We just finished with Labor Day weekend in the states. Why is that important? It spells the 'end of summer' for a lot of agents.

Dozens of agents updated their open/closed status and their #mswl, so we were busy updating our Database to make sure we know who's looking for queries.

Morgan does love a good contronym. Patrick only likes them if they're verbs.

Can they promise not to use entries to train AI? Because I'm pretty sure 98% of the writers I know are better than AI, and the rest just need to run a grammar check first.

Looks like Harper Collins has decided that outsourcing distribution and logistics isn't for them.
After it outsourced its distribution and logistics services in 2010, HarperCollins is reversing course, announcing plans to build a new 1.6 million sq. ft. “supply chain logistics facility” in Brownsburg, Ind., which it hopes to open in 2028.

Outrageous! Legitimate agents don't charge a fee. They get a commission.
Re-upping this thread on fee-charging (and apparently sales-free) Storyteller Talent Agency, since I just heard from a writer who was asked to pay a $600/mo representation fee.
So as you can imagine, there were tons of scam literary agents. Such agents would never sell your manuscript (having zero skills or contacts); they existed solely to relieve writers of $$ by charging upfront fees of various kinds, such as reading or submission fees 2/6

IMLS cuts are forcing libraries to further trim their budgets, hurting publishers along with patrons. Michelle Dotter (pictured), editor-in-chief of Dzanc Books, is bracing for a reduction in library sales this year up to a devastating 50%.
