i think my favorite bit of this story has to be how, in spite of the many attempts to help avra recover, she still sees herself as a dog… and she seems to work BETTER as one. she sinks back into that doghood for comfort, & vaso is what keeps her paws from reaching up.

This is really, really cool, I adore the dark fantasy atmosphere, and it's fascinating from of a genre perspective. Beyond 'knightsploitation', marrying mechsplo to the specific modern fantasy trope of the princess who wants to learn to swordfight is an inspired choice
