On this Veterans Day we remember a soldier-printer, Augustus Giegengack who ran the U.S. Government Printing Office from 1934 to 1948 and managed Stars & Stripes in World War I.

This caricature comes from a 1943 New Yorker profile of Giegengack.

We had a great turnout at last Saturday’s Art Walk in Haverhill with many folks (young and old) taking time to make print of their own.

Looking for a fun Halloween activity? During the month of October kids can assemble spooky printed paper skeletons. We’re open every Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.

In 18th-century England, even bills and receipts were works of art. George Bickham’s The Universal Penman (1741) remains the most complete record of English calligraphy. See a 1941 facsimile at the Romano Library or free online at Internet Archive.
