All brought to you by the same group that in a previous episode staged a riot inside the national capital to disrupt and prevent the legal transfer of power to their political rivals after losing an election
I know it’s easy to get inured to this stuff but imagine a podcast ep where @mikeduncan.bsky.social is telling you about this happening in some other country at the same time that a crisis in parliament has shut down the national budget.
Presidents have federalized a state's own Guard to use over its objection, most famously desegregation. And sometimes regular military has been used. But taking one state's soldiers and putting them in another state? This is a completely unprecedented breakdown of what the Union fundamentally is.

Is this the expected impact of the bill currently moving through Congress?

It’s fun starting a new hobby with ADHD because I never know if I’ve found a new lifelong passion or if I’m going to spend $2000 on stuff and immediately lose all interest

Many of you who've visited will have noticed that though our north aisle is the community gathering space, with the kitchen, toilet, and library, it's a bit grotty.

We're hoping to do a small refresh of the space, making it somewhere more comfortable that people want to be. But we need your help...

I’d gesture broadly to the museum world, but specifically on BlueSky, no argument there.

Yeah. I’m in Ft. Collins and Denver much more than Boulder. Greeley’s in an ideally located spot, about an hour to the mountains or big city. The guy who was the driving force behind settling the area was all kinds of problematic but he picked a great spot in the end.

One bit college town, one bit front range city imitation out west, great parks, a growing Natural Areas Program, and a slowly growing number of events and programs. It’s a young town with lots of families and some great Mexican food among other eats.

Greeley resident here. Th contrast between even my so called cow town (it really isn’t any more) and Pueblo is huge. C’mon up one of these days if you’d like to look around.

For this very reason, a part of our discussions within my municipal museum when planning almost always addresses the question, “Will upper city management support us if X happens.”

There’s been lots of oversimplification about the incarcerated fire program. Mr. Hahn has been there and is a great source to learn about the totality of the program.
A great write-up on the incarcerated firefighter program in California & the folks in prison helping out with the fires in LA.

Appreciate The Marshall Project for reaching out to me. All too often, folks write about fire camps without talking to people who’ve been to fire camps. Not the case here.
The Dangerous Yet Desirable Work of Being an Incarcerated Firefighter in California
More than 900 prison firefighters were responding to the crisis in Los Angeles — but their pay is low and the ethics of their choice are complicated.

I don’t have a huge following list out here yet, but for folks in Southern California and the LA area, Watch Duty is a great app to get the latest on fire and evacuation information.
