I’m a thirtysomething, probably AuDHD, definitely burnt out former Gifted Kid™ surviving on coffee and harebrained hobbies. 🌄 Dreaming every day of working less and living more.
Accidental millennial mental health tip: This week, a friend (nicely) bullied me into picking up Pokémon Go again. This has accidentally been HUGE for my mental health. Before: wake up, check the news, feel bad. Now? Wake up, catch Pokémon.

Also, I got 12,000 steps yesterday. 👟

I'm freaking out a bit tonight on account of today's events, so I decided to smash out a blog post about it. Maybe it'll be helpful. Maybe not. Idk, I'm going to go to bed.

America the Cruel
Friends, I am spiraling. This weekend, I wrote 75% of a very bougie, somewhat self-congratulatory (look at me, I can see the man behind the curtain!) post about market manipulation and insider trad…

There's something cruel in the phenomenon of taking time off of work to chill and get things done around the house and then immediately getting sick. 🤒 So much for a long weekend.

Oh, wow. Who could have predicted that? Not the environmental activists and Native Americans who were subjected to police brutality while trying to stop this thing from being constructed, right?

I am so, so exhausted by this timeline.
The Keystone pipeline system, which carries crude oil from Canada to the U.S., was shut down on Tuesday because of a leak that spilled an estimated 3,500 barrels of oil in southeastern North Dakota, government and company officials said.

Blatantly running a pump and dump scheme on the entire global market is definitely a level of grift I wasn't prepared to see today. Don't ask me why; in hindsight, it's 100% on brand.

I yearn to tell stories and draw things, but instead, I edit sales documents all day. By 5pm, I will be mentally exhausted. All evening, I'll mourn that I can't do what I want because I'm resigned to do what I must.

Routinely driven to depression by this, I am told, "suck it up."

I missed the whole bread-making craze during COVID, so now seemed an appropriate time for me to give it a try. My first attempt came out in the shape of a butt, which I choose to interpret as a commentary on the state of the world at large rather than my (admittedly dubious) baking skills.

See also: no posts at all, because I am so overwhelmed by everything that I don't even know what to say anymore. (Except "FUCK," of course.)
If my posts appear increasingly unhinged, I just want to take the time to apologise to absolutely fucking nobody because this is how any sane person should be reacting to the state of this death circus we’re forced to inhabit

6 months of market gains gone in 4 weeks. 👍🏼 My 401k had only just recovered after being flat as a pancake for 3 of the last 4 years, but cool. Cool cool cool.
(Yes, I worship at the altar of dollar cost averaging. It will be fine, someday. Probably. But I had just begun to hope FIRE could be real.)

Ah yes, the season full of the corporate joy of having your goalposts moved just enough to not hit that overall "Outstanding" tier in your performance review, undoubtedly because the favorite few on your team have taken up the allotment, and having too many outstanding employees is obv. a problem.

A tragedy of timing: We bought a cargo van last year to build out into a dream camper so we can visit national parks. Not only are all the building materials more expensive now, at this rate, the parks will probably be gone before we've even gotten the thing ready to use. 😭

One fun* thing about ADHD neurotypical people don't know about is the Waiting. A meeting this morning & a dentist appointment at lunch triggered Wait Mode, so work before noon was impossible. Now it's the afternoon slump, & What's the Point has kicked in. 😶‍🌫️

...Also I forgot to take my meds.

The tech bro billionaires don't think normal people are real. They think they're the main characters, and they're not concerned about the consequences for the rest of us.

Oh.....well that explains a lot, actually.
Just had the epiphany that my aggressive self-editing tendencies on any and every creative thing I do might be connected to years of masking ADHD and essentially self-editing every interaction with everyone ever for decades.

So how's your Friday going? 🙃

So, uh, what do we do when the president ignores the Constitution and an unelected, drug-addicted oligarch just kind of starts running things? It feels really weird to simply keep going to work, but I literally don't know what else I personally can do right now.

Oh no, you mean to tell me that China plagiarized the plagiarism machine? The machine the billionaires built from all of our stolen writing, art, video, etc.? What an outrage that China stole the stolen stuff! Inconceivable!

I know it's just a drop on the bucket, but what a relief that somewhere, people are trying to improve work instead of making it more miserable.
Two hundred UK companies are moving to a permanent four-day work week.

The decision comes after a trial where businesses tested the model.

Workers were happier and more productive, and the quality and quantity of work was unaffected or even improved.

Recently, I dreamed I was staying in a hotel where there happened to be a Nazi convention (think old money/cocktails and PowerPoints). After quoting the Dead Kennedys, I hijacked their AV setup to play Wolfenstein while they freaked out trying to get the screen back. 10/10, would dream again.
