And the finished box - will use as bookbinding toolbox :) I want to make another though and have ideas for more too - but also need to make a book!

Here’s my box (more in next reply)

I can show you my box I made.. I need to do the books I have in mind but I cleared a storage unit yesterday - that’s been there 10 years. Stuff from mums house when she died (who years ago) including my antique sewing collectibles collection!

I’m the same jumping right in. I’m now going down the cartonnage rabbit hole too! Really I should just take it one thing at a time haha. Besides I always find jumping right in is the best way - no fear jump in learn from mistakes get better in time :)

Yes that bit is a bit tricky, I think practice practice practice will make that better. I saw a you tube of a German bookbinder (forgot name will look later) and he was silent but you saw his entire process. The paper trimming was meticulous

At least those were my take aways from the mistakes I made haha

If your PVA is drying too fast you can make a mix of 60% PVA 40% CMC (edible tylose powder made up to liquid) this will slow the too fast drying.

Put glue on from centre and push it outwards.

Use parchment over creases when using the bone folder to stop any cracks

That’s good - the instructions from the course and kit I took were terrible. Videos played in wrong order, measurements all wrong (changed after cutting etc). Learned a lot of what not to do! Next go is always better :)

Ahh thank you! I did wonder about those kits it’s good to see one in use!

A rare day out with my bestie to Book Of Mormon. I’ve wanted to see this ever since she and I went to Salt Lake City in 2018 😂

Gosh that looks lovely!
February 18, 2025 at 8:09 AM
Looks good where is the kit from? I’ve fallen foul of someone good at social media, very expensive, and the kit and instructions are not good. Now watching you tube and reading how to!

3/3 this was not a cheap class, she sold herself well on socials took forever to send the kit which didn’t include enough materials. I asked 4 times in emails for missing PDF’s. Still don’t have them. You tube to the rescue. Feeling quite ripped off.

2/3 2 missing PDF’s, wrong measurements, videos in some weird order that make no sense & SIX videos in she finally says “don’t cut the pieces out yet” after going through “cut your pieces…” and then later saying “they should be x length” but the two PDF’s she did include have different measurements.

My next make is proving to be a bit difficult. The techniques are easy enough and it’s straightforward however the online class I spent a fortune on, sadly, is really very poor.

Wow the HOL is looking for its next “Black Rod.” I’d apply just for the fancy uniform and to be able to whack the door with the big stick at the opening of Parliament. Shame I don’t hold the rest of the qualifications 😂

And yes I forgot a leaf! I need to go back and finish that this weekend :D

My Seductivestitch piece from a recent sip & sew session in Barbican at the Sutton Arms recently. A great couple of hours with Katy Horwood of Seductive Stitch. She holds Sip & Sew all over London at various pubs. Totally worth it for a fun night out!

I do! Ish. 4 ways - 1 have a savoury and a sweet (or curry and not curry) 2 seals. Option 2 soak in bicarb. Option 3 wash and leave in the sunshine which will “bleach” it. Option 4 - Milton the fuck out of it lol
