Really excited to share that the organization I run, Kiddie Science, was recently awarded a grant for an idea that I'm quite passionate and personally invested in bringing to fruition. Lots more details to come, but in the meantime, get excited and welcome to Citizen Science!

Where were you the day the sky turned orange? If you were in New York City on the afternoon of June 7th, I’m sure you remember how strange and eerie that whole experience was. On this episode, I reflect on the June 2023 wildfire smoke event in New York City: www.buzzsprout.com/2459806/epis...

At the mercy of the winds...

This is your morning update. If you pan out, this is what you see on the PurpleAir map. NYC is currently in the yellow, with a simple wind shift in control of where the AQI goes.

There are over 800 wildfires currently burning in Canada and the US.

Breathing polluted air doesn’t just make the sky look hazy—it has real, and sometimes lasting effects on your body.

Recent studies suggest long-term exposure to pollution may contribute to cognitive decline or brain fog, memory loss, and even depression. Learn more at inhaleexhale.buzzsprout.com

Early afternoon AQI update from Brooklyn, NY.

We're dealing with heat, ozone, and wildfire smoke.

How smoky air moves.

A high pressure system just to our south is going to slowly ease this smoky air eastward toward us. Our AQI right now is 11. That will definitely change this evening, and will persist overnight into most of the day tomorrow.

Good morning! If you're in the NYC area, you can expect to experience diminished air quality tomorrow (Tuesday) due to smoky air from Canadian wildfires.

Fires are unfortunately not under control, and thousands of evacuations have been ordered. Stay safe out there!

When air quality becomes art.

This weekend, I had the honor of attending the Teens Arts Connection exhibit which included a very familiar face. You can check out amazing artwork made by NYC teens now through June 2nd at the Riverside Church.

Spring is here, which means so is spring cleaning! Make changing your air filter part of your routine.
This is my at-home filter after six months of use. While it doesn't seem dramatic, wait till you see the side-by-side comparison with a new one.

Breathing. It’s one of the most basic things we require to stay alive, and yet, we rarely stop to consider what’s actually in the air we're taking in. Check out this first episode as we dive into the basics:
