i’m a fan of sonnet3.7 and grok3 atm, but it’s becoming evident that transformers may never be the means to an end. it makes sense that advances to computing are going to draw from or coincide with advances in neurochem/neurosci, which makes intuitive sense. why keep “mocking” intelligence?

Been following the trend of “writing better”. I cannot stress enough the importance of reading in improving your writing. Read dense, boring stuff as much as you read fun, exciting stuff. Keep track of your favorite writers and their storytelling. Then, adapt to your audience and context.

“how you do one thing is how you do everything” falls apart when you’re really good at lying to yourself.

python is an appropriately named language for how slow and gluttonous it is.

i believe being good at building highly scalable, distributed, secure systems necessitates being bad at gift wrapping.

unfortunately, i am bad at both. but, i’m working on the former.

my nuanced take on ai-assisted programming is that it raises the baseline output of every engineer irrespective of code quality. i think we need to be real with ourselves and admit none of us are coding at 100% efficiency 365 days in a year. (1/3)

Hasn’t there already been precedent showing a robots.txt file isn’t enough? 🤔

I’d like to imagine that if Oregon Trail was written today, game designers would have a field day with the number of ailments they could program.
It says a lot about our imagining of the past that in the video game Oregon Trail, you can die of cholera or typhoid or dysentery but not of consumption, even though consumption was the most common cause of death in 19th century America, especially among westward travelers. In this essay I will

I like to think the story of Iceberg Slim is about “500 Internal Server Error”s, because any more of those and I’m gonna lose it.

plugging an under-appreciated package my former manager built: github.com/james-lawren...

1. supports blue/green deploys
2. supports canary deploys
3. has a replicated permission system
4. requires no additional infrastructure. (network file system is recommend though for boot strapping in gcp)
