Just giving this a midweek bump, what do you use for board work? #mathstoday #UKMathsChat
Question for Maths teachers… what’s your go to for work on the board?
PowerPoint? OneNote? Activinspire?

I like the ‘infinite’ space on OneNote, but I also like being able to organise into ‘slides’.

Wondering if there’s a hybrid option out there.

Don’t seem to have got the hang of this summer holidays malarkey. Up at 7am again… maybe this is just me now.

Anyway, think I’ll go for a walk 🚶

Mini Whiteboards have completely revolutionised how I teach programming.
I’ve always done PRIMM, but moving Predict, Run and Investigate onto MWBs has increased engagement, allowed me to correct misconceptions quicker and deepened understanding.

I can’t imagine teaching without them now.

I’m looking to connect with Scottish maths teachers on the topic of BGE assessment, tracking and monitoring.

If you’d be willing to answer a couple of questions from a fledgling PT, let me know.

Today is Sunday. Sundays are the days for the big questions.

Today I have the biggest.

When will Aptos be available on OneNots? @mtholfsen.bsky.social @microsoft.com

My body clock is doing a weird thing where I wake up at 4:30 regardless of when I fall asleep. Quite inconvenient.

Anyway, good morning and happy Friday!

It’s been a fraught day with the Christmas tree. Just as I got the branches fluffed, the cheap base crumbled. No attempts to stabilise it were fruitful. Finally decided to take it down and get a new one, and marked my recently decorated wall in the process.

Will retry the Christmas spirit tomorrow

Officially started Christmas shopping. It’s now a slippery slope of ‘oh my god it’s only X days to go’ through to the big day.

Just discovered mathswhiteboard.com by @matttheapp.bsky.social - going to be a fantastic addition to the tools I'll use when planning and teaching Maths!

I hope there’s an open data set for this. I can feel a practice N5 and Higher Computing assignment coming on…
First proper day of snow in Scotland of the winter. The names of our snow ploughs in Scotland always make me giggle - 'gritty, gritty bang, bang' and 'Sled Zeppelin' personal favourites of mine - you can track them live here: www.traffic.gov.scot/gritter-trac... stay safe on the roads.

Happy Friday. It’s been a busy week.

Delighted to have been appointed PT of Mathematics, Numeracy and Technologies at Dumfries Academy.

Exciting times ahead!

How do you make sure that the likes of Scratch and Physical Computing is worthwhile in laying foundations for textual programming?

I often find learners remember ‘making a game’ or ‘making the robot move’ but don’t learn about sequencing, iteration, selection etc.

Not posted on here really since the start of term… it’s been hectic!

Thinking today about ensuring afterschool supported study is effective. What are others’ strategies?

Do people use goodreads for professional reading? Is that a thing?

Very jealous seeing holiday snaps and stories from colleagues in England. Two productive inservices have concluded and the start of the term is looming.

Got to happen at some point!

I'm reflecting on my use of Exam Questions in my teaching. Have always introduced these as early as possible to get learners used to the styles of exam questions.

However, I have read suggestions that throwing them in early can have a detrimental effect.

Enjoying BlueSky. It feels like Twitter of a few years ago in a lot of ways, including being quite feature-light.

Will things like threads, bookmarks, polls etc be supported natively in time or are they omitted by design?

I have created a #TeamCompSci feed:

bsky.app/profile/did:...

I know that @csteachian.bsky.social created a list which can be pinned (which is fab), but I was noticing it includes replies (which again is sometimes fab!)

This simply picks up on any posts with #TeamCompSci

I have a few questions for teachers that make use of tools like Quizizz for retrieval lesson starters:

1. How do you find it works with classroom management?

2. Do you integrate it with homework?

3. Do you go over any of the questions before transitioning to the lesson?

Grim weather today. Heading in to school as I’m moving classroom this year. Haven’t even begun to think about what to do with the walls 🤣. Minimalist approach?

Trying out BlueSky along with Threads!

I’m a Computing teacher in Scotland. I’m also beginning the process of dual registration in Maths.
