We had a gully washer of a rain storm for Summer Solstice this year. It made me so happy. ❤️ I wish I could share with you how amazing our backyard smells right now. One of my favorite smells on this earth is a forest in the rain after a dry spell.

I’m kind of obsessed with my garden.

1. My sole surviving Goatsbeard is fixing to bloom this year!

2. My huge Rhododendron is always the last to bloom in my neighborhood. The giant allium smell great.

3. Fringecup, Pacific waterleaf, and a sword fern at the base of a Big Leaf Maple tree.

Fun Fact: In 1954, Woody Guthrie and his wife, Anneke van Kirk, lived in an apartment building owned by Donald’s father, Fred Trump. Woody wrote a song called “Old Man Trump.” It starts:

These signs have started appearing on utility poles in my city recently. There is a lot of discussion locally about what they might mean. I think it is a “We will not go quietly into that good night”-type pro-trans call to arms, and I dig it.

Our property is in deep shade so spring always arrives a bit late. I was super excited to see my Cascade Oregon Grape (Mahonia nervosa) blooming for the first time since we moved in, though! And the trilliums have just started lifting their lovely heads from the duff.
