Really enjoyed the @culhamstgabriel.bsky.social session yesterday launching @profjasjitsingh.bsky.social report on Sikhi education.
Need to go back through it in more detail, but struck by the similarities with the Insight UK report into Hindu education from a couple of years ago #TeamRE

Starting to prepare for September.
New team coming in, with it, an overhaul of KS3.

Really enjoying the opportunity to think deeply about what to include and how to sequence both lessons and topics, but the empty spaces are slightly daunting #TeamRE

Sat down at half term and decided I needed to carve out time to post more, or write a blog about our current KS3 decisions as we rejig it

Not yet found the time, and it feels like this half term has been longer than 7 teaching days

I ordered a copy of this before Half Term - early into exploring it, but as a secondary specialist it is an interesting insight to thinking especially at EYFS and how that can be the foundation of all out teaching

Really excited for #PrimaryFocusWeek for #TeamRE - from a secondary perspective it is a really helpful insight and hopefully will influence discussions at department level
Kicking off #PrimaryFocusWeek with a blog by @natre-update.bsky.social chair @katiekatie84.bsky.social
A powerful reflection on the importance of recognising and valuing primary-specific expertise in RE leadership.

Nearly a full day of Islam today - mixed between Y7 and Y11. Always fascinating to reflect when lessons align like this about the progression between topics and year groups #TeamRE
Y7 - looking at the Significance of Muhammad, and Y11 Revising key terminology and how they link together

Wider school focus on assessment has got me thinking about how we improve the disciplinarity of our KS3 assessment, so that we are not just using disciplines as a way of encountering information, but getting students to think, and argue, from these perspectives #TeamRE

Really enjoyed listening to @suchmo83.bsky.social sharing his wisdom on reading today.
Sparked so many thoughts as I review our KS3 curriculum

Back into work mode today, and starting to catch up on all the posts I saved over the past two weeks, to read properly when refreshed.

Musing of the weekend, inspired by a ITT training session was to review, recast, and rework our KS3, to streamline the units that have become bloated, and change the structure to allow more interweaving of ideas through the stage to aid retention.

Only half baked so far - daunting and exciting

Definitely hit that point of the winter where my body is struggling to fight the germs. It has been burbling along for a week or so, but today feels really tough

This week feels like I am trying to live out an answer to Mill's question of whether it is better to be a pig satisfied, or Socrates unsatisfied

The last two days have mainly consisted of sitting down to tackle my to do list, and then having more urgent matters appear across my desk that need sorting first.

Odd mix of feeling positive about how productive I have been and how little has been taken off the to do list

Starting to think I need to dust off the blog (or reset the password) to formalise my thoughts about the curriculum review and NC discussion of #TeamRE - but know that I won't be able to blog regularly

Just sometimes easier to do in long form that as a chain of posts

Great thread of responses to the common challenges raised when discussing making RE a NC subject

It will mean a change in the balance of the landscape, but seems that the positives outweigh the negatives (especially if the status quo is the alternate)
It's time (it's actually late)...a 🧵for #TeamRE on arguments against becoming a National Curriculum (NC) subject and my counter arguments....

Feel free to correct any inaccuracies.....

Musing for #TeamRE

If the outcome of the curriculum review meant that RE/R&W was no longer a legal requirement at KS4, but it resulted in stronger consistency from EYFS-KS3, and GCSE was optional;
what would be the impact (positive or negative)?

Shocking insight into time today - October half term feels both so recent and yet so distant.
But due to an odd interjection I discovered that Christmas is 5 weeks and 2 days away, but also it is 5 weeks to the end of term - simultaneously too close and too far

Parent's Evening tonight - always a positive when in the middle of the conversations, and when looking back on it but the lead up is always a hard one.
In a busy week, with lots of other things going on and taking up time and brain space it feels like a step too far but I know I will enjoy it later

Looking forward to our department meeting this week. Going to be discussing the Oak curriculum plan, and @missdcox.bsky.social NC sketch to see where we need to focus our development
