Movie Postmortem: Megamind (2010) 🧠🎸

🎉 Causes of Celebration: fun superhero deconstruction, voice cast, good animation

💀 Causes of Death: crowded 2010 release year, predictable plot beats, romance angle feels tacked on

🧵 Stitch-Up: cut the kiss, leave Metro Man dead, make Warden a father figure

Idris Elba and Charlize Theron! Although I wish they had more to do in Prometheus, I love this scene because he directly asked the question I had on my mind too! 🤔🤖

Wonderful to be included among this group! If you are not following @basedonabook.bsky.social then you should! Great episode themes and Bluesky posts!

Their episodes covering the Pride and Prejudice novel, adaptations, and then Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was one of my favorites!

The most divisive part of Prometheus was how we each felt about the “black goo”. This substance, first introduced in Prometheus, can be used to create, mutate, or kill. I absolutely hate its introduction into the lore! 😅

My absolute favorite part of my discussion with Cheryl and Jae about Prometheus is how Ridley Scott's film tied in Jesus to the Alien universe!

It really made us wish they included scenes of Engineer Jesus in the film. Ridley, release the Jesus cut! 😄

Movie Postmortem: Prometheus 👽✝️

🎉 Celebration: production design, score, cast, Fassbender’s David

💀 Death: scientists act dumb, cast split too often, clunky lore, weak creature action, Vickers’ end

🧵 Stitch‑Ups: smarter characters, better mission motive, embrace Jesus link

In our episode on Prometheus, we discuss where David ranks among the synthetics of the Alien franchise.

Who is your favorite artificial person?

👽✝️ Prometheus (2012)

Cheryl and Jae from @vaguelynerdypod.bsky.social join me to discuss Engineers, creation, and why Jesus fits into the Alien universe!

This is a long one! We do a full plot rundown before our postmortem analysis!

I think the scene when Man-Su confronts his first “competitor” in No Other Choice is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The rest of the film is good, but that blend of drama and zaniness in that scene is perfect!

I miss the brief age of dueling disaster films. 😄

I agree that Volcano was the superior of these two films.

Mainly because it has one of the most memorable heroic sacrifices in any disaster film!

That similar scene in Dante’s Peak was NOT as good as this! 😁

Fun Fact: Dark Skies shows “Close Encounters” of multiple kinds, except the first two.

1st: Seeing UFO (CE-1)
2nd: Physical evidence of UFO on ground. (CE-2)
3rd: Seeing aliens (CE-3)
4th: Abduction (CE-4)
5th: Experimentation (CE-5)

Dark Skies starts on third base!

This is now my most anticipated release of 2026! 🤩
January 10, 2026 at 1:13 AM
Dark Skies is an alien abduction film, so why do these extraterrestrials act so "ghosty"? 👻🤔

In our episode, we discuss how this is probably because Blumhouse originally intended for this to be a found-footage film like Paranormal Activity.

I’m actually surprised we got a sequel for Greenland. I thought the first one (forced to streaming platforms in 2020 due to COVID) was an enjoyable and underrated disaster film, but not one that needed a follow-up. Especially one with a much higher budget. 😬
