The vintage computer I truly, truly regret not acquiring before prices on the second-hand market went absolutely bonkers for these things, is the Apple //c with its dedicated 9-inch monitor.

Design-wise, it’s perhaps my favourite in the whole Apple II line.

Yesterday, by pure happenstance, I discovered the music of Madison Cunningham.

What a treat. It has really been a long time since I found an artist who made me react like, “Hey, this feels unique!”

The last time was probably around 2016 when I discovered Jordan Rakei.

From now on, any worthwhile thread I write on Mastodon that doesn’t get expanded into a full article on this blog will nonetheless be preserved here as a short-form Elephant Memory Systems entry.

I watched an ‘analysis’ and commentary of an episode of X-Files on YouTube by a girl who:

- admits she doesn’t care about ‘all that stuff about aliens’ that constitutes the backbone of the entire series.

- doesn’t get Mulder’s humour.

I also found this photo, taken on Lake Orta, Northern Italy, in 1939. I just love the atmosphere here, with San Giulio island barely visible in the background. My grandfather is the one in the centre, looking away. The others should be his group of friends. He was 19 here.

Digging in the archives, I’ve also found an envelope full of old photos, mostly of my grandfather and his family, during the years he was in the army and then in WWII. This was taken in 1941 and portrays his division, Telemetry & Comms. He’s barely visible, as he’s with the guys inside the tent.

The Red Floppy has been unearthed. I repeat, the Red Floppy has been unearthed!

What this means:
That now I need to unearth either a vintage machine or my external USB floppy drive to check what’s on the disk and why I had buried it so deep in my archives. (And no, it’s not p0rn.)

Today, in a message, I've made the most serendipitous typo. Possibly the typo I'm most proud of:

"I am a man of my world."

Anthony Jeselnik — the treasure that he is — makes a seven-minute YouTube video where he manages to talk about his Top 10 Books for 2025 AND make a couple of announcements.

He’s starting a book club on YouTube in January. I’m in.

’Tis that time of the year where my interest in all things Voynich manuscript is revived once again.

Among other things, this YouTube channel is very good at examining various aspects and common questions about the VMS.

Sometimes after posting something on my blog that gets a bit of traction, I receive quite a number of emails with smart observations or insightful feedback.

And sometimes I get stuff like, and I quote: “Now that Alan Dye has left Apple, will you return to the platform??”

As a huge Waits’ fan, this is accurate. 🎉

I would also add a petrol station/diner named “Frankie's Burgers & Kerosene”. 😅

All these places’ names would also be perfect song titles for his next album.
Happy 76th Birthday, Tom Waits!

I can’t believe it.

I waited for this game to release for 14 years. It had a difficult development, and I honestly thought they had given up.

But it’s here. And the reviews are positive so far. Amazing.

You should really watch this. Of course, I completely agree with Jared. And I think more people should read “Technopoly — The Surrender of Culture to Technology” by Neil Postman. I started it recently, but I need to pick it up again.
