TFW you wonder when the World Bank might release their 2024 PPP conversion factors because you need them for your job market paper… and then they announce that the next release is just a few days away 🥰

Sebastião Salgado has passed away 😢 He photographed the Rwandan genocide and so many other humanitarian catastrophes. Without him, the world might have never been able to imagine the horrors of what happened there. Toward the end of his career, he found that he could no longer photograph humans.

This is just a quick appreciation post for applied econometricians. I’m writing three papers right now and the methods I use did not yet exist when (or our understanding has dramatically improved since) I started my PhD. Amazingly timely ❤️

Learned an interesting thing from Leslie Maasdorp @britishintinv.bsky.social about the fundamental rules of development finance: When you set up a development bank like the World Bank, you sign that you will never get the money back that you put in. Pulling out entirely is not a sensible option.

Excited to see that #EconTwitter has found a new home on #EconSky Curious to see if we can rebuild the magic. I’m Moritz, I work on poverty alleviation programs and rural markets and I’ll be on the academic job market this Fall.
