Tír gan teanga, tír gan anam
Wow, 23 years with my own domain! It’s a bit of a wild ride lately. The rise of OAuth2 & email restrictions has made it tougher to use custom domains – especially with the Outlook app. I’m now using Thunderbird and Alpine Email CLI to keep things running. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it’s working

With everything technological running away at neck break speeds, I’d thought give a shout to these guys at
sdfeu.org . I’ve always had a soft spot for Linux and Unix. Back to a time that was slower and way more fun.

Thinking of ditching Sonnet 3.7 api for Gemini 2.5 Pro. Am using Mistral for most language tasks.

When you think you know it all. You don’t. Realized yesterday that I can actually use git add and git commit on my local machine, without the git push. If I mess up, I use a git reflog, followed by a git reset. Tis the little things.

Todays wise words. When programming, simple is good, when it gets the job done.

Looking forward to the next #mistralai model. mistral-small is great for general natural language tasks.

When using #perplexity , try to write 'gotcha' as the last questions and note the response.

A new coding workflow that I have found useful lately is to brainstorm with OpenAI 01-mini to create a spec for any new tool or app, then run it through Claude Sonnet 3.5. Surprisingly good results. Still needs the human touch to tweak the code, but saves a lot of time.

How can a country like the US be against free medical care for all? Bernie Sanders had the right idea. Mention free healthcare and you’re either a Socialist or a Communist. Happy to be living in the “socialist” Nordic area.

2024 has been an awesome tech year. When GitHub Copilot came out I bought a years subscription, but the rate of advances in AI mean that yearly subscriptions are too much of a lock in. Will stick to APIs.

@mistralai.bsky.social is one to watch in 2025. I love the ethos of #mistralai and they are based in the EU.

Where do I get a decent stable ipv6 address from? My local provider is still stuck on ipv4, and takes about 5 bucks a month for a fixed ip. Have tried Hurricane, but am behind a NAT. Only option at the moment is using a VPS and a workstation.

Which stack do people prefer to code in? I’m 90% into Python but still use HTML, Vanilla JS and CSS for the frontend. If it’s a single page web app, then I’ll go with the CDN based versions of React and Tailwind. Backends are mainly python and fastapi.

I’ll give a shoutout to #sourcegraph #cody ! For 9 USD, I get Sonnet 3.5 and the new Gemini Flash 2, as well as 4o, o1-mini and o1-preview.

Linux is awesome. I even scrapped the OS on my Mac and installed Linux.

What python needs is a half decent framework when developing desktop apps. I use tkinter for most things because it is quick, basic and works. Have tried custom tkinter and Flet, but always run into a mountain of debugging before stuff works.

Python is perfect for automating everyday tasks. I often find myself typing the same thing over and over, when I could create a tool in 15 minutes that does the job in seconds #Python

I have been playing with Gemini 2.0 Flash, and have to admit that it rivals Claude Sonnet 3.5. Its fast.
