@cate-pearce.bsky.social Wishing I could've connected with you and picked your brain two years ago, though I guess I wouldn't know what I know now if I had! Sigh.

Midnight Meadow. I just saw this video of theirs from a while back and it's driving me nuts because they literally paid in IOUs all this time and got away with it 😭

Heartache is being a trans guy who doesn't pass and hopelessly pining over a gorgeous queer man who wouldn't look at you twice

Ugh...that querying dilemma of submitting to an agency that has an "only one agent at a time" rule, but your query is still sitting in the inbox of an agent who has a decent track record of responses...yet they skipped yours

Well this is exciting!

Unfortunately the book is not currently available for sale. It should return to stores very soon, pending the return of my rights. I hope that doesn't interfere with any plans!

If anyone requests in the interim, I'm happy to send an epub at no cost.

Midnight Meadow Publishing has a submission window coming up this October...but if you're thinking of submitting, you should know that MM authors are reporting a variety of problems, including delayed royalty reports & payments, & MM is offering rights reversions

I cannot stress enough how communication is your first red flag - and the best way to find out what's normal for a press is to reach out to authors already there. 👍🏻🎉💯
Small presses can be wonderful or a nightmare, and unfortunately you have to vet them yourself. There's no list out there, like there is for agents, of legit ones.

So here are a couple red flags that should make you run away from a small press—yes, even if you've been waiting so long for an offer:

Is it bad form to quit a job before returning from medical leave? Or isnit better to go back and see appointments for a couple weeks first?

Say you work at a place that's abused you. So, you start seeking other employment.

How do you combat the guilt of leaving your existing clients behind at the bad place?

Ok, before I go back to work in two weeks, I'll be redoing my peekaboo.

What do y'all think - bright purple, cobalt blue, or mix of both?

Is this news? Bc I remember her in Death Becomes Her and am not even the slightest iota surprised
People talking about Isabella Rossellini coming out as bi in her 70s, but I DEFINITELY read something as a teenager where she was talking about Monroe's outfits in Some Like it Hot and wanting to undress her with her teeth. I was in the Lucan public library, it was not a dream.

I took the Praxis for my profession over a decade ago. To get certified in another country, I would have to take a similar exam - to prep, I took the Praxis again today, to make sure there weren't holes in how I've been teaching and practicing.

Passed with an even better score than my first time!

My cat D'artagnan has kitty dementia. I had to set his "Goodbye Appointment" today. It's 2 weeks away, and still, it's too soon.

I've had him for over 16 years, and while he was the runt of his litter, I can't believe he outlived his two (non biological) fur brothers. It's so sad, but time. :(

Today's dopamine song is "Vienna (Everything's Fine)" by Vienna Vienna.

I love many of the tracks on Wonderland, but this is my favorite. It's definitely an appropriate theme song for one of my favorite characters, so now I will forever associate it with him! <3

I've always felt Suzanne Collins must've been forced to remove a lot of backstory in THG, which is why we didn't get the full picture of Panem.

Reading BOSAS, I feel validated in this view, simply because the infodumping is...prevalent. As a guaranteed seller, it was allowed to be exposition-heavy.

I recently came across Metal Family on Youtube and words can't express how helplessly in love with Glam I am.

This man is so my type, he might as well be Amund from Russia. <3 <3 <3

I've finally come to the conclusion that Threads for the bookish community is essentially a cannibalistic Hydra - always chewing off one head to grow another.

I've logged out of that platform and am looking to regrow my community here. Bookish queer folks - self-pub, indie, and trad - hmu!!
