Mild hot take: IT shouldn't pressure employees to put in helpdesk tickets. The ticketing system is for IT's benefit. It isn't the user's problem.
If the user didn't put in a ticket, or couldn't, or just plain doesn't want to, then the IT staffer helping that user should fill out the ticket.

AI-Generated “Workslop” Is Destroying Productivity
Despite a surge in generative AI use across workplaces, most companies are seeing little measurable ROI. One possible reason is because AI tools are being used to produce “workslop”—content that appea...

I have recently discovered Nikhil Suresh's blog, ludic.mataroa.blog. Professionally he's a data scientist and software developer, but its his writings on the absurdity of corporate culture that resonate with me. Office humor is as old as the Chancery, but today's insanity invites a sharper tongue.
Ludicity

"While I'm deeply sympathetic, the author should be discussing their issues with a therapist rather than spreading this on the internet."
I finally rage-quit and started a...

So Trump's HHS tapped Alex Byrne to write a report on gender-affirming care? This is like Janice Raymond's 1981 Medicare brief all over again.

"Let's ask a nonclinician who published an anti-trans book to advise us on gender-affirming care."

The story of LGBT rights is a story of advances followed by setbacks followed by media with no skin in the game saying, "It's because you were too loud/asked for too much/moved too fast/got too big for your britches/didn't make your case." That never changes--but happily it's never the last word.

What is common knowledge in your field, but. shocks outsiders?

So many. Here's a small list.

Corporate employees should not have admin/root permissions to their own PCs. Ideally, not even tech-savvy employees like IT and software devs.

You don't have to be racist, sexist, or right-wing to find corporate DEI & sensitivity trainings insulting. A major underappreciated function of these training programs is largely to lay the responsibility for systemic problems onto low-level workers and divert attention from structural inequities.
I have never seen any example of the left "hating" young men that doesn't distill to "refusal to coddle them/insistence on treating them like adults with agency."

The deeper fallacy underlying the notion in my last post is the idea that voting patterns can be explained simply by candidate positions on specific issues - disregarding voter suppression, ballot access, candidate personality, identity, messaging clarity, media saturation, etc.

The narrative that Democrats lost over trans rights is bad and dumb in multiple ways, but one of the easiest counterarguments is that most voters consider trans rights & trans panic a very low priority. It consistently ranks very low on lists of things that voters care about.
This is such bullshit. There wasn't a single Dem who made bathrooms and sports significant parts of their campaigns. I'm really getting sick of guys like Cuomo and Rahm Emanuel retconning the 2024 election.
Haven’t seen this reported yet: in a speech to supporters posted to TikTok last week, NYC mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo said he believes that Democrats lost in 2024 because “we’re talking about bathrooms and who’s gonna play in what [sports] team”
