Honoured to see my book ‘Almost Boys’ (under the author name Isobel Ross) included in the first newsletter from Scotland’s ACEs Action Community. I hope my story can make a contribution to spreading the word about the importance of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) to our future well-being.

Two books came out in April which have an important focus on girls' and women's experiences. There is much more to be done on expanding the voices heard but I feel encouraged that this is happening.

I can’t wait to read this!
Next week: This book is finally out! I am proud to have contributed a chapter in which I say: "I wish we could talk more often about denial." Nicky Moxey has worked hard to bring this book to fruition. She deserves all the celebration coming her way. @axrenton.bsky.social @moragedwards.bsky.social

I love talking about the Rupture-Repair Cycle. It helps parents relax. You do not need to be in constant sync with your child. This 2024 article underlines that point.

Why parents shouldn't always be 'in sync' with their children
Parents are often advised to be constantly attuned to their children and to respond to their every need. But is this always the right approach?

In a conversation this morning, the book Almost Boys by @moragedwards.bsky.social came up. We were reflecting on the importance of hearing women's voices in the boarding school survivors' movement. I said I thought her book makes an excellent contribution to this gap.

I think it is really really hard for most of us to imagine that the daily events of our infancy shape who we are in our adulthood. We just can't imagine that it matters that much. And yet...it does. Infancy matters.
Practical take-away: Pay attention to babies' emotions.
