I hear him before I see him. The sound of laid back drum n bass echoing down the canal. At the tiller a middle aged man, the sweat on his oversized belly glistening in the dying summer sun. The music throbbing from a skull speaker on his roof.

A narrowboat moored by the lock. A bearded man emerges followed by an old white dog. “Come on let’s go for a walk.” The man strides off. The dog is in no hurry. It is smelling the lock post. “For fucks sake come on”. The dog stops its sniffing and grudgingly pads towards him.
