Montgomery County was created during the American Revolution and named for Maj. Gen. Richard Montgomery, killed at Quebec on Dec. 31, 1775. The name marked a break from honoring royalty and a turn toward American civic leaders.

Today marks the anniversary of the death of Richard Montgomery, the Revolutionary War general for whom Montgomery County is named. He never set foot here, but he died fighting for independence and self-government: values that continue to shape who we are as we approach our 250th year.

Starting this week, new plastic bag rules take effect in Montgomery County. 🛍️♻️

Plastic carryout bags will no longer be offered at most stores, and paper bags will cost 10 cents. Bring a reusable bag when you shop.
