Nobody wanted to talk about this...at first. Then they did. Rachel Becker gets below the surface on this one to talk to people about an invasive species whose costs are still climbing.
They've been compared to the 'bedbugs' of the Delta.

One year since their discovery near the Port of Stockton — a first for North America — golden mussels encrust boats and piers, and threaten water supplies for farms and cities. And there's no help on the way.

I think it also should be mentioned that the person who really got this going was Rick Caruso, the West Coast Trump/developer who Bass kicked the ass of in the election, and who falsely spread conspiracy theories about fire hydrants in the same radio interview.
Not going to stick up for Bass because this is the job, but we’re all in our feelings right now and going after a mayor in a weak-mayor city over a countywide disaster is cope. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/09/u...

Not in an evac area, woke up in the night because it smelled like a campfire inside. My house has well-sealed windows but apparently drafty doors, so I blocked those up and doubled up on air purifiers. Outdoor AQIs are 320-400ish for PM 2.5 and PM 10.
