The National Institute of Health describes pharmacy deserts as "communities that are both low-income and have low access to pharmacies." North Minneapolis is now considered a pharmacy desert, with just 1 chain pharmacy now serving a population of over 40,000 people.

And remember: it's not just independent pharmacies closing, but chains like Walgreens and CVS too.

When local retail pharmacies close, their community loses access to life-saving and sustaining medications-insulin, EpiPens, Naloxone, antibiotics, emergency contraception, vaccinations, and more.

A great example of why headlines should always be taken with a grain of salt... 👀

Optum and their fellow PBMs claim they are trying to pay us "closer to the actual cost of medications" (why not just the actual cost?) and they, as usual, blame the drug manufacturers for rising costs.
