Here's one of two Caspian Gulls from today ~ a chunky 2cy bird that looked smart on the deck & even smarter in flight. This one spent quite a while circling the swirl of gulls in the surf before dropping back in & behaving nicely for us. Love. It. 🙂

Guillemots, among the deepest diving birds in the world can dive 180m to feed! Rats can't compete on the diving front but can hold their breath for 3 minutes! It's really important not to throw a rat overboard from a vessel dead or alive. Carcasses washed ashore on seabird islands create big scares!

Hace unos días, una amiga me preguntaba si esto era todo lo que podíamos esperar de la vida: madrugar, hacinarnos en el bus para llegar a trabajar, pasar ocho horas frente al ordenador y volver a casa a preparar el 'tupper' del día siguiente. Me lo preguntaba frustrada, desconsolada. Consciente de lo difícil que es salir de la rueda. He tenido esta misma conversación con demasiadas amigas. Mujeres con vocación que han estudiado convencidas de que algún día tendrían una buena vida. Ahora todas vivimos asfixiadas por unos alquileres inasumibles, unos salarios precarios y unos trabajos que nos impiden elegir dónde queremos vivir. Y en nuestras escasas horas libres somos presas del 'síndrome del tupper'. Porque romper una tarde la rutina; ir al cine o tomar una cerveza y no cocinar al llegar a casa, es un privilegio que solo pueden permitirse aquellos bolsillos a los que comer fuera de la oficina a mediodía o encargar comida preparada no les supone un desajuste en la economía de todo el mes. Ojalá dejemos algún día de entregar todo nuestro tiempo y recursos al trabajo y empecemos a vivir de él con libertad"
