“Even in defeat, Democrats remain bullish that the contest portended some of Mr. Trump’s political weaknesses entering 2026. Roughly 100 Republican-held seats were less pro-Trump in 2024 than Tennessee’s Seventh, and Democrats need to flip only three seats to win a House majority next year.”
Matt Van Epps, a Republican former state official and Army veteran, won a special election for the House on Tuesday in Tennessee, holding off a surprisingly stiff Democratic challenge in a Republican district that drew a flood of national attention and money.

The correct Jeopardy question in the “Uses of AI” category for $500 is “How can AI be used to make criminals even more dangerous?”
Chinese state-sponsored hackers used Anthropic’s A.I. technology to conduct a largely automated cyberattack against a group of technology companies and government agencies, the company said Thursday.

I did not stay up until midnight when my Aurora app says the KP index was at its peak. So the sequel might have been spectacular too.
It’s back! Not quite as intense and bright as last night, but we do have northern lights in the southern twin cities. The sequel is never as good as the original.

A scoop that I’m not happy to report:

CBS News has gutted its climate change reporting team, one of the best in the business, and one of the only ones on cable news that consistently called out fossil fuels as the main source of climate pollution.
