Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)
Tl;dr: The vast majority of adults will never have to interact with our age assurance systems and their experience won't change, because we know Discord and how people use it, so we're designing to respect privacy and deliver a safer experience while minimizing friction for adults. Hey folks – I’ve been on Discord since very early 2016 and actually joined the company in 2017. Safety is one of my areas, so today’s announcement on our blog is something I’ve been pretty involved with. I’ve always cared about Discord's approach to privacy (E2EE for A/V was another of my projects here), so I figured I’d add some more context to today's news. I can say confidently that the vast majority of people will never see age verification. I say this because we launched age assurance in the UK and Australia in 2025, and we have some pretty good data on this now. The idea here is that we can pre-identify most adults based on what we already know (not including your messages!), and that looks to get us pretty far here. No face scans, no IDs, for the vast majority of adults. And if you are one of the smaller subset of folks that we can't definitively pre-identify, then still, you only have to do it if you're accessing age-restricted servers or channels, or changing certain settings. That's really not most users. (Altho... might be more Redditors, tbh.) Last, I know that there is concern about privacy and data leaks. That's a real concern. The selfie system is built purely client-side, it never leaves your device, and we did that intentionally. That'll work for a bunch of users who aren't pre-identified as adults. But if you do end up in the ID bucket, then yeah, you're right that has some risk. We're doing what we can to minimize this by working with our range of partners (who are different partners than the data leak you read about), and if it's any help, we learned a lot internally from the last issue. But I get if that doesn't necessarily inspire more confidence. Anyway, we’ll be sharing more next month as we get closer to the global roll out about the system, including the technology behind it in March. I honestly wouldn't be happy if we didn't build something good and I am excited about what we’re launching, but please let us know what you think when we share more details. And I really appreciate everybody's feedback here today. We’re definitely reading it!

Here are the silly #AskMario sketches I made before the stream!
During the Ask Mario Reacts to SMG4’s Stupid Mario Kart vid, Luigi drops the silliest line in that entire reaction. (Yet it’s true: don’t get between an officer and his pastry!) Also, Daisy showing affection to the Green Goober! Snowsie’s line to get into the voice of Princess Peach is her Peach Bomber side-special in Smash Bros: “Hat-CHAA” , so I wanted to work it into a sketch for a while. With winter hitting the northern hemisphere now, nothing hits the spot quite like hot choccie! (Except maybe hot apple cider~) PS: Glad the pun was bearable and cute, Slick Frame. 😅

Here’s the sketch piles from last night, complete with my commentary in the alt-text dump.
For DTFultz/Tyler: Bowser, Jr, Wendy ‘O, Roy and Lemmy around the couch, a la The Simpsons! (I couldn’t think of a good choice for Marge outside of giving Peach a beehive haircut… maybe next time. 😆) For James/Slick Frame: Juggling the mini cohosts! Tyler’s having a blast, Jason’s sketching Rosalina and Steve/HyperVoiceActing… is unfazed by Slick Frame’s antics. Ohhh Doopliss… that wasn’t nice to fool Jason into believing that we have Rosalina earlier than we’d expect. (For the record, I love Maxwell’s voicing this ghostly goon. 😆) Midway through the stream, Jason had a rodent problem which he immediately dealt with. No more Mousers! 💣🐭 (*sighs* I love Super Mario Bros. 2’s cast.) For Steve: I sketched Quake Woman from the Mega Man Archie comics! In turn, I drew my fave Robot Master in the series: Fire Man from Mega Man 1/Powered Up! When Nintendrawer/Monica gave Slick Frame art of Mario, Luigi or Bowser, there would be a number of spots of empty pixels/missed eraser marks, leading him to commission Tyler to voice Homer Simpson to “FILL IN THOSE DOTS!!! 😡” Rosalina in her Aurora Dress, dancing with her faithful cohort, Polari! (She’s so tall and he’s so tiny hahaha 😝) Luigi questions Professor E. Gadd about the Butterfly Effect and its relation to time travel. I really wanted an excuse to hear E. Gadd give that wonderful line from Ghostbusters. Captain Toad is on a “Diaper Adventure!” (Jason pointed out that he actually says “Ready for adventure!” instead of “Time for adventure!” My dear friend, Gemma joked that he said what I drew. 🤣) Bowser’s Potential Prank on Mario #9: Ding-Dong Ditch the pesky plumber! (Based on the moment in Episode 9 of Ask Mario + Tyler’s outtake while recording Bowser, he voices Mario screaming in anger at Koopy’s prank. 🤣🤣🤣) Fury Bowser makes a great entrance in Ep. 11, much to the ire of Mario and anxiety for poor Weege. For @Poisndart: Bowser and King Boo in the rare moment of collaboration of pranking Luigi with the infamous monster piano from Super Mario 64! 🎹 High-paws for everyone! Just another EGG-SALAAAAAD/excellent art of Wario… with a bowl of egg salad. Wario’s castle woes, not getting enough treasures to get the castle of his dreams, but just the birdhouse. Joke based on the best bait-and-switch gag from The Simpsons when Homer tried to work on a BBQ pit, only to fail miserably. (Season 10, Ep. 19 was a gem… and during a rerun of that episode, I was working on art for a picky ceramics teacher in high school - I felt Homer’s rage while putting art together, hahaha!) Also-also, my buddy, Tom/RecD made this joke, and it gave me a great laugh and I knew I had to draw it someday. 🤣🤣🤣

@therealsparky.bsky.social The FNAF movies are not perfect by any means, but I can say the same thing for all of the games pretty much, but I had a fun time with both of movies. :D And I understand the movies won't be for everyone, but they're not trying to be, they're for the fans. FNAF movies. :)

Here are the sketches based on a good portion of the Luigi Galaxy streams, half of them based on the one with #Luaisy from two weeks ago! (and one with @dtfultz.bsky.social guest-starring!)
Left, middle-up, upper-right, to bottom-to-bottom-right: 1) From Stream #1: LuBeeGi and DoJayMi singing the Beegee's "Staying Alive" 2) Luigi's catchphrase in the streams: "It's time to LOCK IN!!!" 3) Bowser's speech getting interrupted by a Mario Superchat notification. (I actually sketched the Mario Face from Super Mario 64 just for silliness' sake.) 4) From Stream #4: This was a portion from the very beginning of the Luaisy stream. Unfortunately, due to the strange stream outage, this one ended up getting up going unlisted, but this moment was still VERY cute, I had to sketch it. Oh no! Luigi, stop thinking about Daisy and watch out for the goopy dark matter! A common theme in Super Luigi Galaxy: Weege hitting his booty on fire and pointy stuff. Oh, and Daisy makes that memetic comment about Luigi's powerful booty.
