i think everyone who has played on or heard of the minecraft server zerominr should read the ban appeal of jake_osml, one of the server’s most important map artists.

"i don’t see how anyone could think artistry is safe on this server after this decision."
i was banned for getting others to help me download my own maps into single player worlds by using illegal mods. this includes: Helicase, Forensics, Coastline, help me out, Ouch!, Polymerase, Hard Hat. some of these maps were also posted onto other servers (Hollowcube), which i consented to and assisted with. my ban also lists “rule 5 - evasion” as a reason. i am assuming that this is because i asked other people for help downloading my maps instead of doing it myself. if there is anything else you are confused about, or would like me to address, please just let me know.​ Why do you think you should be unbanned? i’m going to keep things 100% real in this appeal and not mince my words. i will start at the beginning, with the thing that started all of this - removing my maps from FFA. i am not going to apologize for the entire thing - i felt that me and my friends had been wronged as artists, and i was doing the only thing i had the power to do in order to be heard. however, i said and did many, many things during that time period, and of course i do not stand by all of them. notably, i want to apologize for the lack of communication on my end. i wish that i had reached out to more people and told them about my concerns / what i was planning to do, prior to making such a drastic decision. it was short-sighted of me to make the decision prior to trying to solve the issues i saw via direct communication, and i am truly sorry to the staff team for the trouble it caused on your ends. after i made my decision, i was ousted from all of my minr friend groups. minr had always been a safe place for me to escape from IRL things and to truly feel accepted in being myself, and it just wasn’t like that anymore. to put it simply, i no longer felt welcome on the server. i’m going to explain something to you - to me, my minecraft maps are not just minecraft maps. they are truly the creative efforts of ~4 years of my life. i do other things like photography, poetry, drawing, etc… but for the past 4 years, first and foremost, i have been a minecraft map maker. all of my maps are incredibly emotionally significant to me, more than i could ever put into words. “help me out” i built during my first year of college - in spite of extreme social anxiety and loneliness, i made a co-op map that you must play with a friend. “polymerase” is probably my greatest creative feat of all time, and i made it during the hardest period of my life when i was dealing with debilitating chronic illness (long covid). i’m telling you all of this to explain - these minecraft maps are more important to me than you could ever imagine. i think you might understand, then, why it was distressing for me to have these maps hosted on a server that i did not think was creatively supportive of me and that i no longer felt welcome on. i also began to worry that i would be banned (for causing controversy, disrespecting admins, something like that), and it brought me immense anxiety to think that i might be separated from these maps that i hold so dear to me. so, i asked someone for help in downloading these maps to single player. i considered asking admins for permission to do this, but i knew that the answer would be “no.” minr is not necessarily known for being overly accommodating with requests like that. and, basically the entire staff team hated my guts at this point - why would they help me download my maps off of minr? i am not asking for an immediate unban, just some forgiveness and understanding on why i did this. i know that the rules on minr are here for a reason - to protect the server and community. by downloading my maps, i never intended to cause any harm, and i think you know that. to act like my actions are equivalent to fly hacking or downloading another creators maps for my own benefit is disingenuous. all i wanted was to know that these maps were safe with me, and that i would always have access to them. these maps are my own intellectual property; i built them block by block, painstakingly, over the course of 4 years. i just wanted the peace of mind of knowing that these maps were no longer hosted solely on a server that had become mentally distressing for me to even log onto. but, i know that the rules on minr are here for a reason. you cannot just have people using illegal mods because it risks causing harm to the server and community. i am just asking for you to please consider the intent behind my actions, not just the actions themselves. i never intended to cause any harm to the server and i don’t believe i have caused any - i just wanted full ownership over my own intellectual property. i apologize to the admins for not asking permission in doing this, but given the context of how i already felt hated by this group of people, you might understand why i chose to take things into my own hands. in the future, i know that my relationship with minr will never be the same, and it will never be the safe place it used to be for me as i was growing up. i don’t think i will ever be incredibly active on the server again, as i have before. i am just asking for some forgiveness and understanding, and for a chance to mend all of the relationships that have been damaged over the past few months. AJDJ, minr admin, replies: While I appreciate you taking ownership and agency of the illegal mod usage, it does not absolve the others of the part they played in this. It will be taken into consideration for their appeals. The schematic will be emailed to the email tied to your forum account. Please do not appeal until June 2027. The rehosted content (originally built on this server) will need to be taken down for any future appeal to be accepted. jake_osml replies: so, let me get this straight - you’re not going to let me back onto the server until you know you will have a monopoly over my work again? well, i won’t be coming back. the maps are mine and mine alone. just because i built these maps on your server doesn’t give you even a smidgen of ownership over them, or mean you get to decide what i do with them. to be clear, i have been banned for 2.5 years for taking ownership of my own art and doing what i want with it. players who actively engage in bigotry in chat are commonly banned for fractions of that time. i don’t see how anyone could think artistry is safe on this server after this decision. and to everyone else involved - i am greatly disappointed in your inabilities to stand up for what is right. i will say thank you to staff and the community for all of the memories, and for being such a large part of my life during these formative years. despite all that has happened, this server does and will always mean a lot to me. oh, and one more thing - stream yummy by justin bieber :)
