There’s been a 24-point swing between #Arsenal & #Liverpool in favour of the Gunners since the end of last season.

What do the key metrics reveal behind this shift?

I took a deeper look at the numbers, & the match phases where Arsenal dominate.

A data deep-dive on Florian Wirtz's improved form at #LFC in December.
- greater trust & more influence
- adaptation to the league
- getting close to his best version
- one of the top performers in PL, incl. high take-ons success %.

That & much more.

Less chaotic, playing to not lose, encouraging signs on both sides of the box, but the quality of opponents faced & chance concession remains a concern.

A contextualised data deep-dive on Arne Slot’s changes at #LFC & whether they can hold long-term.

The last 10-season avg for winning the #PremierLeague is 85 pts (2 pts above 2nd).

With 21 games each to go:
Arsenal need 46 pts at 2.19 ppg (15W, 1D)
Man City need 48 pts at 2.28 ppg (16W)
A. Villa need 49 pts at 2.33 ppg (16W, 1D)
Chelsea/LFC need 56 pts at 2.66 ppg (18W, 2D)

Between #LFC's 2nd goal & Tottenham's goal (16-min period), LFC lost the ball/booted it out only twice & had a good 4-minute spell with the ball b/w 76 & 80.
But, after Spurs' goal until FT (another 16-min period), they lost the ball 4 times & had no 5+ pass sequence.
Weak!

Hugo Ekitiké has been excellent for #LFC. He is
- second only to Haaland in non-penalty (NP) goals
- best among forwards in PL for NP xG performance
- has improved his shot placement quality without reducing volume by much

That & more discussed.

FREE: Looking at the Liverpool-Brighton game to analyse #LFC's shape before & after the Salah sub.

- Why the 4-4-2 could be here to stay

Tried to use data to explain why Slot has continued to pick Gakpo this season, how the Dutchman has not regressed from last season (backed by numbers), his general play drawbacks, and why the onus is on #LFC to find an upgrade in that position.

Away from the Salah topic, I wrote an article 4 weeks ago on why #LFC need to sign 2 CBs even if Konate stays.
Each passing week, that argument is getting stronger.
Reasons, data & scouting of 3 targets: Guehi, Schlotterbeck & Upamecano, & more in it.

Albeit with context, #LFC’s underlying nos have improved, esp. defensively, since Slot's decision to move Szoboszlai to RW over Salah.
Results haven't matched up yet, but nos don't lie.

Plus, has Salah dropped off or is it just a system change?

Who is capable of challenging Arsenal & City, and why Arsenal are heavy favs by underlying nos?

Not to be too down, but I don't think there is a "run of 5-6 wins" in this team this season. It is down to coaching too, as there isn't a single pattern of play that resonates with this group of players so far, and we are in December now. #LFC
