"...real engagement is something deeper — and rarer. It’s the sustained effort to master something hard." Been thinking about this a lot recently in my own classroom. Too many students becoming disengaged when the answers do not come to them immediately.

This 100%. I have ummed and arrhed over whether to get mini whiteboards. Are they another fad? Will they be more trouble than they are worth ? However, my reasons for getting them are not to create a fun child centred universe. No, it's much more mundane.
Is there an "engagement crisis" in schools?
Why chasing 'fun' and 'relevance' could kill learning

I don't generally go nuts for learning from leaders in other domains, but I would strongly recommend Gareth Southgate's Dimbleby Lecture. I found what he said about creating the right culture spot on and quite moving. He brings together when so many are keen to divide. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Curious to hear how others teach kS4 literature essay structures. I know that AQA don't have a preference, but do people recommend students begin their essay with evidence from the extract or use the text in a more chronological structure or something else? #TeamEnglish @teamenglish1.bsky.social

We began the year with a condemned building, which led to staggered starts; teaching across two sites, and teaching in portacabins... I am beyond thrilled with our results. The students pulled their socks up and just WOW! What a way to end a very challenging year.
