I feel like the further we go, the less applicable knowledge the average member of society could contribute in this situation, as the trend is for people to get further removed from the innovations that enabled it in the first place.

Trust and convenience are intrinsically linked. The more convenience you want, the more you have to trust other people, businesses, governments, systems and process whether you would like to or not.

If you think about it, most of what constitutes a debate is just wrestling over the definitions of words and concepts. There is not much to argue about left when everyone agrees with the definitions of what is being debated about.

Does someone actually find this side panel of old google searches useful and not annoying? I hate it when every time I want to search something again, it just opens a useless side panel without the information it would immediately show me if I hadn't searched for it once before already

It would be a really interesting application for social media data to do a study on which ideas independently arise most often across entirely unconnected communities.
Someone most likely has had the same idea, and so the point of the study would be precisely to figure out who, where, when and why
