Standing up to kings, real or imagined, is in my DNA. My 7x grandfather, William Maness Sr., an "undereducated" farmer who emigrated from Scotland in 1747 after The Battle of Culloden, fought in the Revolution. Despite most Scots being loyalists, he signed this oath renouncing the King of England.

And not all are meant to invoke sentimentality. Some are collected to keep the lessons of history alive should others dare to erase it... Like Elon Musk. (Patch collected by US Army soldier from Chicago, IL after entering a concentration camp he was sent to to aid Holocaust survivors.)
