WIP of something a little new. Been wanting to do more animations involving the Director, she's kind of an important figure that I'd like to explore some more.

As promised: Faces! ๐Ÿ˜ Here's a thread about some technical details for how stylized faces get made in Spirit Crossing. ๐Ÿงต

The game is inspired by media like Ghibli and BotW, but our faces are unique. There was lots of early discussion about face style & we landed on dot-eyes early...

I've been trying to replicate something like this in Blender for my work on Young Suns, but for whatever reason custom properties don't export from Blender like they do in Maya. I'm so very jealous of this setup.

Fantastic thread, thank you for sharing!

I turned three cans of Monster and a sleepless weekend into a tiny videogame for the Global Game Jam. It's about escaping a room full of procedurally generated masked weirdos, something I'm sure we all can relate too. Play it now on your Windows personal computer:

Another, for anticipation and Keep Alives.

Anticipation often starts with the eyes. Viewers can be "primed" to look somewhere by following a character's gaze.

Keep Alives are fidgeting, blinking, breathing, etc. when a character's not the focus of a scene, e.g. listening to a conversation.

Was asked to provide feedback for a specific type of movement, did an example.

Normally, voluntary movement starts in the face and travels down the body. Eyes move first, then head, neck, chest, hips, etc.
The head also tends to lead the body, then lags behind when the movement ends.

I grimace a bit every time someone calls a remake the "intended experience". wrong! play the original!

It's inspirational! I loved it and I'm still looking through frame by frame on how you did everything.

Wouldn't be overly difficult to do I think, and I've been wanting to make some digi legs for a while so this might be a proper impetus to give that a shot.

she's got a soft spot for him but he's a horrid little creature who's only barely tolerated by people within smelling distance.

Look at it as a practice opportunity. Keep the original obviously, but make tweaks and improvements incrementally, and you'll be surprised how much better they look and how much you improve over time.

Yeah these are all good points. Her body shape needs to be tweaked, but there's a little flex there because well-fitted clothes will modify and emphasize a person's shape, e.g. a bra lifts and stabilizes breasts to make them seem larger and rounder (but yes Olivia has big boobs).
January 27, 2026 at 4:48 PM
Some aesthetic and technical issues. Her arms are a bit short, her neck is a bit long, and her belly fur doesn't follow her body shape. Technical stuff are the improved controls, rigging, and especially topology compared to Lilly. She's fine, but I still see improvement areas.

Yeah, she's nothing like her brother.
