I make websites, learn languages, solve Rubik's Cubes, and do other cool things. Creator of https://cubingcontests.com
I got rejected from a job position at a UK startup last week, after like five stages with two HR-related stages left. Turns out, they had over 870 applicants for that role, and I was in the final 5-6. Oh well, still in the top 1% 😎

It's finally sunk in for me that coding is creative work. I shall now take a five year sabbatical to expand my creative coding skills and discover what else could be made to run on JavaScript.

Am I the only one who feels like some websites going down for a couple hours isn't the end of the World?

Still figuring out the perfect moment to point out the US's descent into fascism - not so early that I get called crazy but also not so late that I miss the opportunity to get bragging rights. Maybe once they ban calling your cat a name that sounds a bit too gay or "ethnic" 🤔

You know you're too dev-brained when you hit send on a message and it doesn't show a loading indicator straightaway, so you go: "man, I should make my own messaging app with a better UX" 💀

Do y'all use #Ansible? I've gotten tired of setting up #servers manually, so I'm considering setting up some Ansible configs to make my life easier. Is it nice to use? Does it affect #security at all? If not, can you also use it to harden your server by configuring UFW, SSH, etc. with it? #Linux

#JavaScript now has this new Temporal object for working with dates, and it'll be stable soon!

Phew, I was so close to killing myself after working with time zones using the Date object, but I'm glad I held out. 1/2

I'm actually surprised the #UK went ahead with that stupid online safety act. But hey if they're already doing all this to "protect children", they should also ban schools, because I hear child rapists like those too 😬 British children should just be homeschooled to make sure they're safe 👍 #privacy

Getting into #selfhosting a bit more. I'm building a small #homeserver for file storage and other fun stuff, and I also set up a #cloud server for stuff I always need access to. I'm surprised at how easy this stuff is (though sometimes I do find myself bashing my head against the (fire)wall). #Linux

It's exciting seeing the #EU gradually move towards #federalism. Hopefully, federal debt will become a more normalized method of raising funding. I also hope we can eventually get rid of individual country veto power and get elections of the #EuropeanCommission president/cabinet.

Did yous know #FEdiverse originally stood for Front-End = diverse, because the creators wanted to promote diversity in web development? Probably not, because I just made that up, but it really makes you think 🤔

TIL: the most sought-after jobs in the UK are in the IT industry, with 204 applications per vacancy on average 😱 This isn't gonna be easy 😅

Y'all #EU citizens should take voting more seriously! Turnout is way too low on the EU level (50%), which isn't good for a #democracy. I'm especially annoyed, cause I live here, but can't vote. The next election will be in 2029, and I better see at least 60% of you at the polls!

It sucks getting stuck in a routine working on a big project or task, and I sometimes just wanna start a new project to have that enjoyment of making smth new again. I try to stop myself when that happens, cause otherwise you just end up with a whole bunch of half-finished projects.

Sometimes I put off doing something for so long that my mind forms a mental block around the task and it feels too intimidating to actually do it. Most recently, I had that with making #music. 1/2

So hyped for #Android Desktop Mode. I use #GrapheneOS on my Pixel Tablet, and as soon as it ships Android 16 QPR1, I'll definitely be trying out Desktop Mode. Seems awesome for basic work with email and a browser when you want something more than a mobile OS.
The future of Chrome OS is Android.

Dang, the #UK IT job market isn't easy to break into. I've been job hunting for a couple months now, and I've not been able to land any interviews as a foreign applicant, despite having a pretty good CV (imho). I'll definitely find a good #webdev job there soon though 😎

Number of fireworks-related posts I saw before realizing it's Americans celebrating July 4th: 5. One day, we'll have our own holiday like that in the EU, celebrating the day it became a federation - one country built for Europeans, multiculturalism, and freedom 🇪🇺

I switched from OsmAnd to CoMaps navigator, and am quite liking it so far, especially for driving. Just hope public transport navigation improves over time. Highly recommend it as your offline open source navigation app!

We got new laptops at work, and they look almost exactly the same as the ones we had before 😄 I always wonder where the old ones go whenever big companies do this stuff.

I decided to actually try the whole bulking/cutting approach to building muscle for the first time. The first bulk took one month, but the cut has now been going for two, and I'm still not done, lol 😆

I attended an amazing developer conference in Munich today: JSCraftCamp. Met a ton of cool people, including the developer of JSR from @deno.land and even got to give my own talk about DX. It was my first event like this, and I'm definitely looking forward to next year!

Jeez, my server just tanked itself, cause it ran out of memory, and I had to upgrade it for an extra $6/month. I really need to finish up this migration of my backend to #NextJS (with server functions) and DB to #Postgres and go down from 4 #Docker containers to just 2.

It's so frustrating talking about #privacy to some people. I always hear them say 'oh, but no matter what I do, "they" will always have my data'. Like, come on, if you can reduce how much data is collected about you by 80% for only 20% of the effort, why not do it?

I used to use Arch #Linux (btw), but eventually got sick of having to manually configure my system for every little thing whenever I reinstalled my OS. But since then I've made a post-install script to make all of that easy.
