On Wednesday I was united with chairs made by my gdad and dad. My family were part of the 19thc furniture and chair making boom in High Wycombe, built up by my great grandfather! This is a later 20thc type when they branched into hospital, pub and hotel furniture.

Series of incised horizontal lines, representing staves for music notations? Some of which was seen pencilled in with notations rather than carved - using stone as a practice sheet perhaps whilst waiting on steps? If these walls could sing?

Sgraffito:

A form of plaster decoration where the surface is scratched away to reveal the layer beneath, often in a contrasting colour.

We have some excellent abstract/summaries for the WtPTwo2026 event and you will soon find out what a great day this will be. We have had only one contribution from an architectural practice, and this is surprising given how many of you are conservation accredited and specifying lime -do get in touch

"It will not be enough to take a few snapshots of the prettier pieces.
These old houses deserve to be studied as systematically & as seriously as Ostia or Knossos or Ur" The more I read of William Pantin, the more I admire him

Any buildings archaeologists use LiDAR apps to record rooms/ buildings? If so, what do you use/ recommend please? I’d like to trial and add to record if poss (of course not replacing traditional recording methods & site camera)

Small disused boat shed, with lots of narrative development just from its surviving snippets of surface finish.

The 1861 magazine for the earlier fog gun at North Stack fog station and the later 1895 electric fog siren that used a bank of 35 Tannoy Triple Frequency speakers that could send a chord siren over 6 nautical miles. It was disused in 1986.

Fired my first ever kiln load this week. It was terrifying on so many levels, but most of all seeing the unit glow at 1250 degrees! If anything it really put prehistoric pottery in to perspective.

Now to work on levelling up my work 🙃 no excuses now…

Just had some lovely news, the church craft fair I did last week, I helped contribute to the £2000 raised, which is phenomenal for a small community over two days! 👏🏼

How genius is this? Local artisans showcasing their work at their church. Each ‘shop’ uses the pews for display! Pews well protected with foam and clasps underneath. Really lovely to give back to the church I grew up with! #xmas #heritageregeneration #historicbuilding #church #art #history #Devon
