Took my 9 year old son to the amazing Game Worlds at ACMI today. What a lovely and well designed exhibition. Well worth the cost of admission. We’re very lucky to ACMI here in Melbourne!

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

@elissablack.com I’m reading a book called “the videogame industry does not exist” and who do I find quoted in its pages?

It's not even the end of February, and I've already finished 3 books. A a result, I have boldly upped the number of books in my Goodreads challenge from 10 to 12. I pray that this is not a demonstration of hubris that will ultimately lead to an embarrassing downfall.

@scalzi.com Hi! Just finished a Starter Villain and really enjoyed it. This and Kaiju Preservation Society have been especially entertaining reads, thank you!

@jamwa.bsky.social I want to read a book about the rise and fall of 90s FMV. I want to read about Trilobyte, Wing Commander, Dragon’s Lair, Tex Murphy and Myst…

Definitely late to the party, but I’ve started watching the movie BlackBerry, and it is truly delightful. I want to see more movies about tech startups in the 90s and early 2000s (ideally companies that didn’t grow so immense that that are currently in the process of destroying civilisation)

Today I accidentally destroyed my Bialetti coffee maker by forgetting it on the stove. On the bright side, I can now finally order myself one of these as a replacement:

Random Saturday night thought: I’m really glad games like Witcher 3 and Baldur’s Gate 3 exist. They really pay off on the promise of Quest For Glory and Betrayal at Krondor from when I was younger. It pleases me that Fantasy games like that have continued to develop so well.

My 7 year old was home sick today, so I let him play through Day of the Tentacle. he’d come in occasionally and ask me for hints (like what to do with the VCR) and it was so wholesome. @timoflegend.bsky.social @doublefine.bsky.social a game that transcends generations!
