It’s possible to live without a car in a city designed for cars. I live in Phoenix and purposely didn’t replace my car for 2 years after it was totaled. Pay a little more to live in a walkable neighborhood and you’ll get paid back in time and transportation costs.

Imagine if all the money spent by lobbyists and political fund raising was spent on healthcare and public education. One can dream, I guess.
