We both wanted to be seen beyond the labels the world put on us.

We knew ourselves to be so much more than the limitations of words used to define us--queer, trans, deviant.....felon, gang member, violent.

We spoke different languages, had different worldviews. And yet we understood each other.

We mistake so many things for love. Here is a timeless corrective for the most common error:

Others will resent you for being free, for living true. Your light will illuminate that which they would rather forget. This is not a reason, to stifle or subdue, it is part of the process, our collective work. We each have a role to play, we must embrace this responsibility and the discomfort of it
