The rules from The Recording Academy clearly say that sales volume and popularity are NOT to be considered when voting, yet this article about the voting this year is about sales and popularity, as opposed to artistic merit. #fyc #recordingacademy #grammys

Grammys 2026: The State of the Race
With fewer megastars dominating the charts, the industry confronts a crossroads: less spectacle, more substance, and maybe — just maybe — a little more soul.

Promoting shows and releases is more challenging than ever, and this is why
This is an excellent article that nails the domino effects of a decrease in arts criticism. The same thing is happening across the country with the closure of alt-weeklies and shrinking daily newspaper arts coverage. As search degrades on social media and Google, events info is harder to find. 🧵
In my debut for @theatlantic.com, I wrote about the disappearance of cultural listings from major New York media outlets, and what it portends for artists, audiences, institutions, and journalists. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

I sat next to Patton Oswalt on a flight once. He was on his phone, so I did not speak to him outside of "excuse me" when I went to the lav.

Mike Bankhead finds that the unexplainable can be fascinating.

Mike Bankhead returns with powerpop single that defies explanation
Aside from quantum mechanics, imaginary numbers, sophistry, crass political antics, and why there’s no M on your MTV, there are several things that Mike Bankhead can’t explain.

This is also me.

If this is also YOU, I'd like you to know that my music is available on CDs that also come with a lyric booklet.
been collecting more CDs in recent years, and while the convenience of digital is nice, it just doesn't hit the same as getting up, selecting a disc, popping it open, and putting it in my CD player. the process is meditative, makes listening to music more intentional and special.
