A yellow-faced bumblebee, Bombus vosnesenskii, feeding on the leftover zinnias in the garden. I’m amazed to see how many flowers are still showing their colors this late in the year, not to mention the pollinators.

And when I say I am a fan of horror, I very specifically mean gothic horror (ghosts, monsters, witches, and demons), and body horror. No slashers, and certainly no bloodbaths.

The Chitalpa is bursting all over in bloom on our front yard. This is a hybrid flowering tree produced by crossing a dessert willow, Chilopsis linearis, and a northern catalpa, Catalpa speciosa. Both the hummingbirds and the bees love it!

The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle.

Don't give them one.

Never use violence. Speak out peacefully.
