The first paper from my PhD is out in Parasitology! Using DNA metabarcoding, I show patterns of parasite infection in Sable Island horses!

It's open access, so go check it out!

Excited to share our new publication on the horse nemabiome! Grateful to co-lead this work with Grace Ochigbo and to contribute to parasite knowledge in Alberta’s feral horses! Many thanks to our co-authors Kobe, @jocelynpoissant.bsky.social, and Brielle!

Excited to share that our paper on Hsiungia pekingensis, a rare equine strongyle, is now published in the Journal of Helminthology!
Special thanks to my supervisors and collaborators for their support. Classical and molecular parasitology in harmony!

Congratulations to @sinamohtasebi.bsky.social for his 1st PhD publication 👏: A phylogenetic analysis of a rare equine strongyle and re-analysis of public nemabiome datasets to learn more about the distribution of the species doi.org/10.1017/S002...

Had such a great time teaching about equine parasites last weekend!
We successfully held our Equine Parasitology Workshop at UCVM, bringing together DVM and grad students for an engaging day of learning and hands-on experience. The workshop covered everything from classic parasitology techniques to cutting-edge diagnostics like nemabiome analysis. 🐎🪱

Hello! I'm Micky, a PhD Candidate at the University of Calgary studying the ecology and evolution of parasites in Sable Island horses using DNA metabarcoding. I spent 3 summers on a deserted island as a glorified poop picker and amateur horse photographer.
