Still hoping the State House can come together and pass the bills making the Governor and legislature subject to FOIA. The clouds in MI are thick thus holiday season.

“X is a massive part of ... the media! It's easily the most powerful platform for Trump's MAGA movement... But that doesn't turn its users into reporters, any more than my owning a Ford F-150 makes me an automaker,” @vandehei.bsky.social writes on why reporters matter.

The story highlights the fact that the governor's office in Michigan is not subject to open records requests.

Meanwhile, city council members, mayors, township officials, local police agencies and municipal department heads all must respond to constituents' FOIA requests.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office didn’t agree to release how many days she’s been out of state so far this year.

But her office disclosed that Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist has been paid to serve as acting governor 58 days over the first 9 months: www.detroitnews.com/story/news/p...

Excellent piece by @craigmauger.bsky.social outlining the legislation to expand Michigan’s FOIA laws. The new laws may not be perfect, but they’re better.

Hoping this is the week the MI House shines some sun on the legislature and the Governor's office. Urge you State Representative to support SB's 669-670. They've been sitting in the Government Operations Committee for months and passage should be a lame duck priority.
