If RepRap had originally used this license, you would never have been granted the freedom to build upon it and start your business.

Not being open source any more is sad. However, creating licenses that are not open source, but claim to be is detrimental to the community you left behind.

Inspired by Prusa's new license "for the maker community", OCL, I'm introducing it's long-awaited sequel, SOCL!

Like Hollow Knight Silksong, it promises to be an improvement over its prequel in every way.

Looking forward to community adoption and feedback!

Bambu was closed sourced from the jump, still has numerous clones, and is still the market leader despite that. Open source isn't Prusa's problem, but he's really trying to become a problem for Open Source.

Not to horsebeat, but it's also really gross that Prusa takes time to pat himself on the back about their Slic3r-derived PrusaSlicer and Marlin-derived firmware being open source (when they have to be) while simultaneously insulting those projects by saying they could rewrite them.

I suppose it’s for the best that we don’t have another site to mine, but I wish Shazam had a default public feed; I want to see other’s random musical lookup transactions, like Venmo but fun

I really wish Prusa had tried to work with OSI, CC, and/or OSHWA instead of greenfielding a new license.

Even if the principle behind this license wasn't misguided, I don't think it's precise enough to legally accomplish any of the goals Prusa stated.

Please don't use this.
We're open-sourcing the full CAD files of the CORE One and CORE One L, released under a new license we built for the maker community. Read more about it in Josef's new article: blog.prusa3d.com/core-one-cad...

Welcome to the public domain, Sam Spade, Miss Marple, Betty Boop, and many more! They'd throw their caps in the air, but they're 95 years old, so they don't quite have the arm strength they used to...

Time again for the Fackrell Cuteness Test:
To infringe, the accused product must look "the same" as the patented design. I posit that if one is notably cuter than the other, they are not "the same."

Which costume is cuter?

deep appreciation for the dueling quotes:

"What the fuck? I literally don't want to do this," one man remarked, before putting his whole body into the tube

"It'd be nice if it was faster, but I think it's really nice ...they're going 24/7," Casey said. "So this at $25 a month is a fucking steal."
I require a 10,000 word investigation on why this gym chain uses these weird pod tubes as gated entry.

That said, I think AI is close enough, and has enough telecom-related uses, for the FCC to "keep itself informed" under Section 218. But figuring out how to follow this EO is -- happily -- Adam Candueb's (FCC GC) problem, not mine.
But AI itself is probably not even an information service.

Indeed, those in the shambles that remains of Admin law should properly ask where the FCC even has the authority to make such an investigation, let alone preempt states. Agencies don't get to investigate whatever they feel like. Their powers derive from their statutes.
