What's new, you ask?

Work on the Nod/Wells Timelines compendium continues.

"The Nemesis Legacy" now has paperback, hardcover, Kindle, and Audible editions! michaelshotter.com

A new episode of @postmortemreport.com is coming in Feb.

@thenwt.bsky.social is also a thing. 🚀🪐📚💙

So, yeah... a lot! 🤪👍
Been chipping away at "Slay the Spire." After about a dozen runs, I've made it to the end of The Beyond several times but have yet to clear any of the bosses there, who all seem to be colossal jerks from what I've seen. 🤣 Still having fun but all those fights were ridiculous. 🤪

FYI: Recorded a new episode of @postmortemreport.com with @ronaldmcgillvray.bsky.social yesterday, which should be released in the next week or so. 🎙️🙂👍

It may seem like a small thing but Goodreads now forcing a login to see shelves and (most importantly) individual reviews is going to cost them mindshare in a big way over time, and open the door for other platforms like The Book Radar and StoryGraph that don't. 🤔

ICYMI: I've been reading and reviewing a lot of books lately. That will slow as my focus returns to my own projects but 2026 is already off to a strong start! 👍🪐📚🩸📚💙

FYI: I am now on ko-fi. I set up the account largely to potentially make use of its associated shop in the future. That said, feel free to leave a tip there if you're so inclined and I will happily and gratefully accept it to aid my creative efforts.

Wanted to wait for the latest patch as it addressed the remaining issues that would have prevented me from generally recommending this one. With that sorted, I'd say "The Fortress" is definitely a game worth checking out. 👍

Finished S2 and, yes, "Fallout" is still a great show. I even bumped my IMDB rating up (from an 8 to a 9) now that the bigger picture of it has become more clear. Leave it to a post-apocalyptic spec-fic tale to be one of the most positive and hopeful things out there right now. 👍

Haven't shared this in a while, so here's my updated starter pack of authors whose books I've read and enjoyed that are active on Bluesky. Check it out, #booksky!

I've enjoyed watching all the LLM's cranking out endless book-marketing span steadily eating themselves to the point where they barely even write English, or anything resembling a coherent, potentially-effective pitch. That bubble's clearly about to pop and my inbox can't wait.

This March will mark the begining of @michaelshotter.com's ninth year as an author. To celebrate, the eBook edition of "The Nod/Wells Timelines - Volume 1" will be just $2.99 for the entire month at participating stores.

Mark your calendars and tell your speculative-fiction loving friends! 🗓️🙂👍

A big thank you to everyone who helped to make the launches of the various editions of "The Nemesis Legacy" a success! Book releases are always a bit intense and stressful, so it's a huge relief when things go well. I hope you all enjoy this one as much as these readers did! 🙂👍

As some of you may know, I've been experimenting with a little speculative-fiction book club over at @thebookradar.com.

This month's selection is @coyhall.bsky.social's "Colossus with a Poison Tongue."

Check it out, #booksky! 💬📚💙🪐📚🩸

My 2026 playlist is off to a pretty strong start. Some interesting covers and re-recordings, and a decent crop of new songs from returning and new-to-me artists. Perhaps not as immediately engaging as in recent years but there are definitely some bangers.

FUN FACT: If you add up all the unique novel-length audiobooks set in The Nod/Wells Timelines, the total is just over 60 hours.

That means you could literally listen to them for well over two days straight if you didn't sleep.

I don't recommend that but you do you.

At this point in my life, I'd say my reading breaks down as follows:

70% speculative fiction - sci-fi, horror, paranormal, etc.

30% nonfiction - news/technical texts, and the occasional biography or history-focused book

Before becoming an author, those percentages were reversed. 🤔

Social media should be a very small part of your life.

Read a book, play a game, watch a movie/show, build real relationships, participate in your community. Almost anything else would be a better use of your time.

Social media exists to help you find better things to do.

To celebrate yesterday's amazing Kindle release of "The Nemesis Legacy," I picked up a new dungeon-crawler roguelite and gave it a try. Fun so far. It's dice-based, so there's a lot of RNG at first, but unlocks and effective strats manifested fairly soon.
