Here is my dilemma. Both of my band members are non binary, and gentile. The Jewish community has never been welcoming to me, and my time in Yeshiva was nothing but traumatic. If you were me would you make aliya, or stay here and resist?

And I'm not throwing any shade on your decisions either. My opinions are strictly my own. And I'm afraid that this conversation has gone off topic

Sorry for any confusion, brother.

That's the point I was trying to make in the beginning :)

This in itself is an interesting discussion, but from a geopolitical position it's a wee bit more complicated than Dan's strawman argument that I'm anti Israel. Love the country, love the people, Hate Netanyahu and other Nationalist types.
February 1, 2025 at 12:39 AM
Dan, I'm done with semantics, and this fucking argument. This is not about Israel's right to exist. It was about Israel's strange choice in supporters, namely Elon. Not everyone who agrees with you are your friend.and I may disagree but I'm sure AF not your enemy

Additionally Netanyahu may not be a Nazi, but some of his supporters are

A. I apologize for not having a spell checker active Not only did I lose ancestors in the Holocaust I also lost some family in the programs of Eastern Europe. B. I liken Netanyahu to other genocidal maniacs who enact ethnic cleansing. Just my opinion. C. I'm not going to engage in a war of insults.
January 31, 2025 at 4:11 AM
And if you're willing to dig a wee bit deeper I'm sure that you'd find there are Israeli Jews who don't approve of Netanyahu's policies. Don't confuse people with political policy.
January 31, 2025 at 1:07 AM
Dan, enjoy your strawman. This issue is far more complex than a few us v them shit posts. What I was saying at the start of this thread was that just because someone claims to back Israel, it doesn't by default make them a friend of the Jewish people.
January 31, 2025 at 1:03 AM
Dan, I don't have skin in the game because I choose not to. I lost family in the Halocaust and I do not like Netanyahu for exhibiting a pattern of behavior that's eerily similar to the Nazis in the 1930s. I'm also American, but I don't back Trump.
January 31, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Dan, I'm afraid you're missing the point. This is not a case of Israel - right or wrong. It's a case of Israel, these are the grifters, extremists and psychos who claim to be your friends. This is an observation.
January 31, 2025 at 12:21 AM
Not exactly. I myself am Jewish. I don't want to take away anything. History is complex, as are human motivations. If I was to have skin in this game I would however push for a two state solution.

I am not puzzled by Elon's backing of Netanyahu's actions in Palestine and his troubling behavior at the Trump inauguration. Many anti semites backed the idea of a Jewish ethnostate as a means to get the Jews out of Europe during the turn of the twentieth century. He's just being a good lil Nazi.

My mother used to collect teddy bears. She was very proud of her collection. It made bringing girlfriends home very awkward (lol).

It really depends on the person, and your communication style. Active listening and being nonconfrontational may help here.

Start a dialogue with someone. Find something in that person that's appealing in some way. Bring it to their attention. Give them a smile if they don't have one of their own. Watch their better angels manifest.

Once upon a time I told my father in law that if we had the same protectionist immigration policies that we have now, back in the early 20th century, him and I would not be talking as my whole family would have been wiped out in the programs of Eastern Europe. I still wonder if he understands.

Have you seen the Orville?

I remember those home keyboards very well. I had a Yamaha PSR back in the day as well as a Casio CT. Even recorded a demo with them using a two track midi sequencer, a realistic mic from radio shack, and a dual cassette boombox. Good times

I've been seeing a lot of these MAGA alienation stories lately and all I can ask is what other family issues are not being talked about?

Okay folks, remember that when you're dealing with disagreeable people this holiday season, kill them with kindness ... then quickly dispose of the body.

Would it help if Aunt Linda was the sole survivor of a coked-up chainsaw wielding bear who butchered her entire family. You know it was that poor woman's sole comfort food, as she lived on the rest of her bleak existence somewhere in New Jersey.
